amplifier needs
Just be certain that the speakers you're using are at least a nominal 8 ohms each. Hooking two per channel will lower the impedance the receiver sees to 4 ohms, and you don't want to go any lower. Other than that- you should be fine.
What amp do I need to power my Acoustat 1100
Ns said, "I think this has become a popular misconception. If you want to roll tubes to tailor the sound of your system, you need a tube amplifier. In a preamp (with the exception of a PHONO preamp), the tubes aren't used for amplification, and th...
What amp do I need to power my Acoustat 1100
If you want to use SS; find an amp with MOSFET outputs. They will maintain stability at low impedance levels. One can practically arc weld with some MOSFET amps. I used modded Hafler DH-500s with Acoustat Model IIIs(in the early '80's) with great ...

OH- If you go Rat Shack: Some of their meters have permanent test leads, and they go bad FAST. Be certain what you get has plug-in leads. Then again- spring for a Fluke, and you'll never regret it.
Groove Tubes EL34LS vs SED
If the output tubes can't be brought up to their proper bias setting; they're shot and you've lost your dynamics. Replace them! If you were happy with the Siemens when new(excellent tubes), purchase another set(or at least a set of SEDs from the S...
handheld voltmeter
It's easy to find a used Fluke digital multimeter on eBay, and they will last quite a while(accurate/tough/dependable). I've had mine for almost thirty years. Some reviews from users: (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4518) Of course, there are ...
Behringer Crossover for Maggies vs Bryston
The Dahlquist DQ-LP1 has a passive, 6db/oct HI-pass section that is transparent to your system(use a good polystyrene or polypropylene cap there), and an active 18db/oct LO-pass circuit that enables you to dial in your freq(up to 400Hz), level and...
What is the affect of cd player?
Just a little semantic gymnastics, between listening sessions. Happy 4th!
What is the affect of cd player?
Oh Zimmy- The first definition for affect in Webster's(a very popular dictionary in this country), "verb: to act upon; to produce an effect upon; to excite the feelings(of); make a show of; pretend". The Miriam-Webster's dictionary has no mention ...
Tonearm wire burn-in question.
The phono pre-amp need not be turned on. It's input impedence(thus a completed circuit) will remain constant, whether the unit is powered up or not.
Tonearm wire burn-in question.
The phono pre-amp does not need to be turned on. There is a completed circuit, whether the device is powered up or not. That fact is witnessed to by the device's input impedence remaining constant, whether the device is turned on or not(for the sa...
HiFi tuning fuses, some benefits help
My Mains are modded Cary tubed monoblocks, and the improvements I mentioned were most noticeable in that app. I've also installed them in my modded TransNova 9505 woofer amp, but installed IXYS soft recovery FREDs at the same time, so I can't hone...
What is the affect of cd player?
Better study your grammar a bit more, Zim. "Affect" is a verb, and "effect" is a noun. The OP used the word correctly in his post(though the title is iffy). CD players may not have affections or affectations("affect" is neither a feeling or an att...
Audio Research CA50 + tube rolling
7308/6922/6H23/E88CC/CV2492/E188CC are all just 6DJ8 variants, and direct replacements. No voltage adjustment should be necessary. Any paired tubes in any circuit should be balanced/matched, triode to triode and to one another in the case of his 6...
What is the affect of cd player?
Whatever a VK-D5 or 657 are selling for now; They were originally $4500 and $2900(respectively). Both are also tubed units which I had mentioned earlier would probably be an improvement. I prefer the presentation of my modded BAT to that of the Ca...
