An observation about "Modern" classical music. I think the atonal only stuff is not interesting to me. I don't mind if it's part of a song, but you need balance. And music should not be a test of your will. It should have pleasing qualities. Atonal works in songs that also have points of resol...
Notice how many SACD collections for sale? The same logic applies for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray - If the quality of the SACD or DVD-A isn't enough to get the average consumer to buy it (audiophiles only)- Then why would they buy HD or Blu-Ray? It will fail too. So, it will be a loooooong wait for...
Musical Fidelity A3.2 v. tubed CD players I have the Cary 308T, and with Mullard tubes, it is as close to the Jolida CDP, but with better detail. Very musical. If you have the funds though, I'd assume the 303/300 would probably be a step up. I'm just assuming that, so check into it.
SACD is it worth it? If you don't have a TT, I would definately get a player that does SACD or universal. Make sure it playes redbook well also, or get an outboard DAC. Some of the posts above seem as if you are choosing between redbook and SACD, but you get both. You...
Cable Characteristcs - Silver vs. Copper From my experience - silver has a lot of detail but can be bright. Copper tends to less detailed but smoother. Obviously this is a generalization and not the case with every cable. I try to go with copper when I can.
What's your favorite lyric from a song? "I'm not aware of too many things But I know what I know if you know what I mean"Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians.
Notice how many SACD collections for sale? That's where I shop for my stuff - well the Fry's in Fremont, but they have 3 - 5 foot shelves full of SACD and I think one section of DVD-A.

How could you go wrong for $240.01? Let us know the results when you get it.
Maggie 1.6 vs Von Schweikert VR 4 alpha 03, I didn't quite get that was it? The maggies or the vr4s?
CD player in the $2,500 to $5,000 range If you choose to go with Pardales idea for SACD, I'd get the Sony XA777ES or most of the others. Right now you can get a deal on them. They all have tremendous SACD sound, and make great transports. Then just add a DAC for redbook and you'll have ...
Notice how many SACD collections for sale? I think more people use SACD in stereo. Multichannel is pretty cool when mixed right, but the fact that you have to spend money on long speaker cables, several extra interconnects thins the budget out. I'd rather put all that money into a pair of ...
Another sign SACD is dying I love this thread - it's title is about SACD being dead, but reading the posts on this thread is very encouraging. Jaybo provides some entertainment with his numbers that he won't back up with any source (sorry jaybo but if I don't have evidence,...
Notice how many SACD collections for sale? I think realitycheck needs a realitycheck.
Maggie 1.6 vs Von Schweikert VR 4 It's funny how people get all caring about $5-$10k speakers being made in China , yet 90% of what they have comes from China including the computer they are typing the post on - bunch of hypocrites. Where do the electonic components inside the Mag... |
