An observation about "Modern" classical music.
I've read up on Serial/12 tone - they were in the same chapter - they aren't much different. I've also read up on minimalism - which seem to be some of the latest composition techniques. Is it me or are they just making stuff up out of thin air. I...
upgrade old cd player
I agree with Jaybo - or get a APL Denon 5910 Universal.
CD player vibration control ..................
It makes a huge difference in my case. Vibration control and acoustic treatment can transorm a system. It's just usually the last thing we think of.
Power Cords
They are almost necessary over stock cords. Used on the front end has the most effect. Don't ask me why they work, they just do.
CD player vibration control ..................
The best I've used was the racing pucks, but they aren't cheap. I now use those on my VPI TT. I use audioquest sorbothane feet now - I think this is an area that DIY can save you a lot of money.
"On time" meter for tube life, cartridge life, etc
How would that help since the time varies on the life of cart and tubes?
Buyer Beware of Late Part 2
Sounds like you scarred him off. Good job. I have the same criteria - first and foremost if it's too cheap, I get concerned and no feedback at all, I don't rule out but get concerned. I think that's great how you handled it.
How can I improve my Sony SCD-777ES for red book
The more you mod the better it gets. You'll get more bang for your buck. You won't find an SACD/CD player that betters SACD and redbook unless you spend much more. The DAC options might give you the best of both worlds, but you'll need a digital c...

well in that case I should call myself lousyreed2. Great posts and thank you for the suggested listening. No matter how difficult modern classical music is to listen and understand, It would far more torture for me to hear country music or certain...
Again, recommended CDPs for $2K-$3.5K
Congratulations! I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Another sign SACD is dying
Why don't you beleive it has 10 years left. Even if there were no more titles coming out, it would last that long? There are new players and SACD's coming out still, not to mention the equipment that is used to make the recordings. Do you think in ...
Review: Quad U S A ESL-989 Speaker
"I have heard speakers that cost 30 times the price of the QUAD's, and they don't come close to matching the precise sound reproduction."OK let's see 30 X $8000 = $240,000 What $240,000 speakers were blown away by the quads?? come on. You lose you...
An observation about "Modern" classical music.
The problem is that as the composers use the 12 tone scale with no tonal center, the listeners fade completely. In other words, it seems that the composers have moved past what most listeners can follow which wasn't the case during classical and r...
Another sign SACD is dying
Well if you are right Tvad (we are all giving our best guess), then all the more reason to have an SACD (or universal) player because it may be 10 years + before a legitimate amount of music is cut for another hi-rez format. And it will be 10 year...
Another sign SACD is dying
The argument that SACD will die because the masses won't get into it is not valid since LP's are still around and clearly not something the masses listen to. There are such things as niche products that can survive without the full general public ...
