Best Analog for $10K
+1 Agrippa! You have the best recommendation here!
Warm up time for amps
If you use it every day - and leave it on all the time - it should be ready to go when you play some music! I do the same with my SS gear (class AB). Hot-running class A and tube gear does benefit from a bit of warm-up before listening - and shoul...
SUT's -Looking for one with some meat on the bones
Forget the SUT. Sell the D7's and get a pair of Ohm Walsh 2000's. Room-filling, 3-D sound with solid bass! $2800 a pair. I own a pair of older Walsh's and they do indeed deliver the "magic"!
Do people know what they are missing?
Only a minority has ever cared about sound quality! Most people have always thought that spending, say, $200 on a stereo system as extravagant! So table radios and department store consoles were common in most homes. Only the hi-fi geeks and the w...
Matching Gear matter to you?
NO! Though I suppose I could get a Quad preamp to go with the four Quad amps (303,405, 50 mono pair) that I have on hand for my 57's!
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
Here rotational mass is king! The inertial force of a heavy platter damps out any speed variation from belt flex. I've yet to see a direct-drive TT with a platter as heavy as on the Ariston/Linn TT's!
Stylus-Drag..Fact or Fiction?
My Ariston and Linn TT's don't suffer from stylus drag. Though they both have quite heavy platters! Kilograms vrs. milligrams!
Please answer for dummies: Any way to increase power from a Chinese tube amp?
There is no way to get more watts/volts out of your Ch*nese tube amp. Of course you could ditch the Mistrals and get a pair of Altec Valencia's (owned a pair myself!). But these would be out of your budget.
Please answer for dummies: Any way to increase power from a Chinese tube amp?
More horsepower (watts/voltage) needed for those low-sensitivity Mistrals! Look for a used NAD or Proton integrated amp. They can often be found for not much money! I paid $50 for my Proton - and sounds as good as any four-figure amp. Good enginee...
Ginger Baker passes away
So sad to learn this! I always thought of Ginger as indestructible! Just recently I was listening to the first CD transfer of Fresh Cream - still sounds great!
And yet another of our heroes passes into the night, RIP Ginger Baker!
I have Fresh Cream in the CD player! Great stuff!

iTiunes Music Files
If your files are all MP3s then you are stuck with an inferior format! Can't make a silk purse out of ... !
New school Or old School DAC Or Cd player?
If you can get some older DACs so cheaply go for it!
Tube Failure question
Keep the Bryston preamp! I have one in use right now. Excellent SQ! Don't fall for the false belief that only tube circuits are "musical"!
