Mastersound Tube amp
Grasp the base with one hand and gently wiggle back and forth while pulling upward. No different than removing any octal power tube.
Lampizator Amber - moving up the range?
Sure, I'd be tempted to buy that Lampizator Golden Gate that I saw here on Agon - but the saner half of my brain said NO!
Lampizator Amber - moving up the range?
I am familiar with the Lampizator DAC's . They sure are sexy looking - and drool-worthy! But worth those high-prices? That I doubt! Like I said, be content with what you have now and stop this neurotic worrying!
Lampizator Amber - moving up the range?
I like tubes - and own quite a collection (including three Futterman OTL's). I just honestly recognize their inherent limitations!
Lampizator Amber - moving up the range?
Be content with your present DAC and don't be fooled by the hype from some of these online sites (Sixmoons.com is particularly egregious with hyping high-priced gear!).
Lampizator Amber - moving up the range?
Tubes are most linear on initial turn-on. They only degrade over time. Unlike, say, whiskey, tubes DO NOT improve with use! To believe otherwise is to be delusional. And I own a considerable collection of tube gear!
Lampizator Amber - moving up the range?
Adding tubes to the output stage of a DAC is contrary to ACCURATE sound quality! It is stupid to seek a euphoric coloration this way - rather than accepting the linearity of a well-designed SS DAC!
Cables of the past - which still rock?
Verion Tri-Axials. I still have several pairs on hand! From 1977 - when they cost $30 a meter pair.
I saw Jethro Tulls 50th Anniversary Concert Last Night
I saw them twice: 1970 and 1973 (NYC and Vancouver). A band that ran out of ideas long ago! RIP!
You know it's a great day when...
I bought a pair of Klipsch Heresy Mk1's (oak finish) in excellent condition from my local CT GoodWill. Price: $25 + 6% sales tax! Can anyone here beat that?
Is soundstaging emblematic of reality?
Soundstaging exists in the imagination!
Best used turntable(s) around $1500.00 for playing metal and rock
Regarding your speakers: I prefer vintage Altec's (Santana 1's and Stonehenge 1's) and JBL's (166's and 4312's) over any Klipsch for hard rock/metal. And I don't use subwoofers - plus I limit amp power to 100/200 wpc. Remember that ear-bleeding SP...
Best used turntable(s) around $1500.00 for playing metal and rock
When I wanted to add a new-in-box TT to my collection of used TT's I bought the Pioneer PLX1000 direct-drive ($700). And a new Denon 103R mc cartridge ($300) + a Denon SUT (used). I can assure you that this combination will sound great with any me...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Go Bo Diddley - Checker 1436 mono LP. Plenty of life still left in this 60+ year old record!
Favorite cover?
How about Hendrix's cover of Dylan's All Along The Watchtower!
