What will it take to have live music for everyone?
I think the other aspect is knowing that it's even possible. I had a musician in my home and he listened to my system and was amazed. His comment was "If Sonny Rollins was any closer he'd be spitting on me." He had no idea that kind of reproductio...
Why should some speakers need a big room?
Eldartford has part of it, the other part is amount of air moved by a certain area of driver. For low frequency if the room is too small then the driver will never be operating at it's optimum in terms of excursion and inertia at reasonable volume...
Listening Fatique- componet or speaker issue.
Most likely it's the room. You probably don't have much in the way of room treatment and have long reverberation times. This is usually less of an issue at low volumes, but you quickly get to the point where you are hearing all of that sound bounc...
Is Smoking Really That Bad For Audio Equipment?
If you have electrostats it will definitely damage them. Those panels are like magnets for smoke particles.
center channel speakers --- low height
Phantom mode is the way to go if you don't have to make it sound right over a wide area. If it's for just 1 or 2 people the phantom mode will frequently sound better than using a center channel.
Pondering a pair of Klipsch La Scalas
I owned a pair of these, but never owned any Mc gear at the same time. Klipsch and Mc were often sold together--they are a good match. However, most of the time you do not need the power of the Mc. You could easily drive the La Scala's with a 3 wa...
Best Guitar CD Recording
Narada did a sampler called Guitar Masters. Very well recorded and a nice variety of new age and folk guitar.
Tremendous RF problem -- phono stage is a radio
You might get lucky with changing tubes or cables, but it's unlikely and it's just a chance. The best thing is to shield the phono stage. There are a variety of ways of doing this. Most RF can be shielded by a wire cage that is tied to ground. The...
Mobile fidelity gold CDR vs Black CDR
The ones I tried were the Melody. They were given to me, so please don't ask where to buy them--I have no idea. I have not had them for years--so I can only comment that after a few months they seem to be holding up very well. The TDK pro showed w...
Room Design for Best sound?
Obviously, we hope that you will want to work with a design group like ours, but even if you don't we are very happy that you are paying attention to the room. It's for this reason we've spent a huge amount of time putting together a resource sect...
Mobile fidelity gold CDR vs Black CDR
My experience has shown the best is the TDK professional (expensive) are the best for quality and worst for long term reliability. The blacks are a close second in quality and are not great long term but far far better than the TDK pro. The MoFi g...
Help Alien spores on my vinyl...
It's probably mold and this is not uncommon for vinyl if not stored properly. Humidity in the cardboard jacket and a nice dark possibly warm from you tube amps--well just a perfect environment to grow mold. Many cleaning fluids have an anti-mold a...
Say it ain't so...
Nicely said Tim. Expose more people to what hi-end can do--most people have no idea. I was flying the other day on American and was very pleased to see that the airline magazine had a 4 page section on hi-end audio. It showed and discussed product...
Laptop to record LP's?
Use a high resolution sound card (externa). M-audio has them. ESI used to. Then burn witha high quality burner such as the Yamaha with 4x speed and nero (don't use a lower speed--oddly enough it produces more jitter).
Substitute for Waveterminal U24
Yes--we are bummed out by this as well. I'm in the process of testing the M-Audio Transit as a substitute. It will not have the SNR of the U24. The U24 was a great product. There are some other possible substitutes, but most of them have a bunch o...
