Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
My main player is an EMM CDSD-SE/DCC2-SE. I got the 5400 for a 2nd system. All of my impressions are from mostly Redbook listening with Harbeth SHL5s and a variety of high-end modern headphones. (I find the Sony really benefits from good ICs: my S...
Remember your Magnavox?
I had a CDB465 back in 1987 (like a 650 w/o remote) and had it modded by MS Brassfield. I really liked at the time and it restored my faith in digital after my initial, well, horror, with an early Panasonic $150 player.
I love my little Quad 9Ls;will I like bigger ones?

Phasecorrect, how are those GMAs?
Tyler Decade D2s: review
You mentioned the D2s are "less edgy." Just a quick clarification if you don't mind, please.By edgy, do you mean buzzy on vocals, or too high pitched, or something else?Have you tried them much on popular music, say 60s or 70s CDs or Vinyl? Thanks ...
I love my little Quad 9Ls;will I like bigger ones?
Thank you everyone for all that, I really appreciate it. I also listened to some Dynaudios a bit (C1s and a couple others at a show and one dealer) and thought the bass "pumped" a little and that the vocals were just not quite right. The exception...
Best SACD Player in the $2000 Range
The Sony 5400ES is great. Here's my short-take. It doesn't have the palpability or texture or detail-retrieval of the my EMM CDSD-SE/DCC2-SE, and the bass is a bit warmish and smoothed-over (but very pleasant and well integrated), but it really wa...
Review: Swan Active Desktop MKIII (Mark 3) Monitor
I tried Cardas Cross and Golden Cross and some old Synergystics I had. The Golden Cross is best among these. It smooths things out without muffling anything. It is a guilty pleasure to surf around youtube for live things and rarities. I suggest a ...
How are McIntosh C46 tone controls different?
OK, thanks for that. From the manual page,it looks like the highest control is centered at 4kHz, as the label says, not 8.Aren't normal treble controls mainly for 10kHz+?
Are There Any Good, High Power Solid State Amps?
I have had an Edge NL12.1 for many years and really like it.
Playback designs followup?
I had the PD machine for a few months but eventually sold it and returned to my EMM SE separates, which still seem to have a resolute, grounded, anchored-to-the-earth sound that I enjoy. While the PD player did a great job of removing the glare and...
Best Rock Albums in 2009, so far
Katy Perry -- "One of the Boys"Hot and Cold andI kissed a girl are my favorite tracks. The audio quality is very fine too -- no glareor over-punchiness.I also plan to pick up Lady Gaga -- The Fame (2008).
Sophia II's and Pass Labs etc
I used to have Watt Puppy 6s with a Pass X350 and found it a good match, especially in the bass, which was natural and listenable and well integrated. In showrooms, I also thought the WP6s paired well with Levinson 33Hs and BAT amps. Hope this hel...
tube advice 5687s
Thanks for the advice everyone.
tube advice 5687s
OK, thanks. I didn't think my current 5687s (tungsol/raytheons, not sure if they are "black-plates") are causing glare, I justthought there might be a version with a mellow character. And since those Bendix ones are so rare and expensive and I need...
