Dunlavy SC I'v As Is that IV A? I would suggest VAC and VTL, both of which I heard with them and sounded terrific. I would think that ARC amps would also sound very good with them.
Dalis or Thiels Can't speak to the Thiel 2.4s (early Thiel models like the 3.5 were terrific but had an overall tonal balance slightly tilted to the treble, so auditioning them was a must because they weren't everyone's cup of tea), but do agree with Tomcy6 that ...
Comments on interconnect cables Audioquest4life, you're not being true to your name!! :^)
Prima Luna Premium Pre I wouldn't worry so much about the parts as the sound. My Jadis preamps had parts in them that may not have been the most expensive, but the end result was stunning. If your dealer has both brands, can't you listen to them there and compare? Or be...
Are my speakers now the "weak link"? I don't think Ctsooner said that, as he thought the Ayres sounded musical and detailed with the Sophias. He just said he prefers the Vandersteen sound over the Wilson sound. I'd suggest that you listen to Vandersteens and see if you like them more...
Dunlavy SC IV extra tweeter felt? I agree, there seems to be some confusion. Does the OP have the ability to post any pictures of his speakers?
Small room; Audio Physic Scorpio or WB Trinity?? Are you in the new home right now (the verb tense in your post indicates you are)? If so, why not set up the Scorpios to see if they'll work for you? In theory I'd agree that a monitor would be the best choice for that size room (I moved to a smal...
Speaker Choice ? I agree with Brauser, Dunlavys (Vs or even IVs) would sound nice in that room. You would need a pretty strong tube amp to drive them (ARC, VAC, VTL), but I have always felt that Dunlavys sound best with tubed amplification. All this depends on you...
What are your favorite speaker finishes? The old Duntech Sovereigns had a Santos Rosewood veneer, I believe, that was beautiful on that speaker. I think the Infinity IRS also used that veneer. In the current finishes, a lot of beauties from Sonus Faber have been mentioned; I also like No...
Replace Kimber 4vs with...? I second the 8TC at that price level, especially since you seem to like the Kimber house sound. It's a nice cable.
tonearm cable straight through or plug in Agree with ZD; I think Dgarretson had read "amp" to be "preamp" in your post. Only qualification is that you could use a standalone phono stage with enough gain and a volume control (like the Aesthetix IO) in lieu of the preamp. But, except in the...
What Preamps for Krell KSA 80 I used an ARC SP11 with my Krell KSA 80 years ago, and was very happy with the results. I believe Audio Research's more recent tubed preamps would be a good match with that amp. What's the rest of your system?
ARC Ref3 or McIntosh C2300/2500 I agree on all counts with Kurt_tank. If you want a sound more like the VTL in the midrange, I'd suggest VAC or, if you want an ARC product, a well-maintained LS5, if you can find one.
Monolith III's or CLS IIZ's Pros and Cons I think that the biggest difference that I noticed when auditioning these speakers was that the CLS was a bit more coherent throughout the frequency spectrum than the Monolith. While the Monoliths did go lower, I never felt that the bass fully int...
Ascendo C8 Renaissance: any opinions? If you're in the northern NJ area, there is an Ascendo dealer in Bernardsville, NJ (Audio 202--very nice place and owner). I have heard a couple of Ascendo speakers there, but not the C8s. I listened to one of their top of the line models and felt... |
