Any experience... Merlin+Wadia+Rowland
First of all...every audio product has some characteristic of it's own. Some closer to neutral than others, but all change the sound in some way...it's physically impossible for them not to. I don't think many people would find completely neutral ...
Class Action Suit against UPS?
I sent an amp COD with FedEx (2-day air) and they mailed the COD check backl to the Audio Store I originally bought it from! I suppose they got the address from the old tag (which the woman at FedEx said she would cover up with my tag). It makes m...
Any experience... Merlin+Wadia+Rowland
I've used my Merlins with a Pass Aleph 3, a Bel Canto SETi40, a 47 Labs Gaincard, an old Luxman M2000, a NAD 960(?), and an old COunterpoint SA100 (all with Golden Cross ICs and speaker cable). My fave was the Counterpoint, but the speakers worked...
Best complete turntable set-up for 500
I've heard good things about the Sumiko Project turntables, and also the NAD tables (they're basically Rega tables). You might want to try and find a used Rega Planar 3.
Where do you guys buy replacement tubes?
A good source for regular tubes...mostly non-NOS, but they do have some...is www.triodeel.com. Jim is an honest guy, and they tend to have most types of Sovtek, Tesla, some Jan-Phillips, etc. They do have some NOS tubes too, so you might want to a...
good vintage tuner
Dynaco made tube tuners, and I think they were supposed to be decent...I think.
Best blank CD-R
I might agree with the above, although a friend of mine inisists that some are more prone to losing data than others (immediately, and after time). We burned some demo CDs on some BASF CDRs that we bought from Guitar Center, and they were pretty n...
Reviewing the Reviewers
Most of the site is his opinion, but his equipment reviews are based on the opinion of several people. He actually mentions that he hasn't had a chance to hear several of the components himself.
Emmylou Harris, "Red Dirt Girl"
Hmmm...I don't know about the actual recording (and the headphone thing). I've honestly listened to it most in the car. As far as music goes, it's a good album. Not amazing, but very solid. It's closer to "Wrecking Ball" than it is to her earlier ...
Cable TV / Subwoofer HUMMMMMMM
Check out www.jensentransformers.com They make a $50 CATV gadget that stops the ground loop. It plugs into the cable, and it's about the same size as the above adapters. I hear that Radio Shack also sells a similar item for less. It took the hum o...
Best Phono stage under $1200? Audiomat?
I upgraded from a Black Cube to an Audiomat Phono 1. The soundstage is better, and it passes much more low-level information. It's on an entirely different level from the Black Cube, but also very different. It is very detailed (though musical), a...
What are good jumpers for bi-wire spks?
Hey Scott99,I experimented with my single wire going to the top and bottom on my Mission 753s and there was a difference...pretty much what you'd think...the lower had more bass, and the upper had a nice top end but lacked some bass warmth. I swit...
Superphon pre needs service
I think you could ask Stan Warren to fix that for you. Search here or Audio Asylum under his name, and you'll find his number. He's in the Northwest, but I believe he had something to do with that brand. Maybe someone else can fill in the details.
CD Recorders--Audio vs. Music Stores
I think the main difference is that many of the "pro" models allow you to use any standard data CD-R blanks instead of the consumer "audio" version. Regular computer CDRs are much cheaper than the consumer versions, so those savings could add up f...
Dissapating static electricity
I use a portable humidifier. I don't have any static problems when it's running. You also might want to pay attention to which shoes you're wearing(if any)...certain soles build up static more than others.
