Best tube cd player under 1000? Hmmm...I know of two, but can't speak for either. The Ah!Tjoeb from www.upscaleaudio.com or the Norh CD-1 from www.norh.com The norh is built by the same Thai factory that produces products for Cal Audio Labs, and I hear that it's very much like t...
Rega or Sony from a "digital dope" When Rega originally designed their CD player, they worked with Sony on their own design. They wanted their player to be more "analogue" sounding than the current crop of CD players. They are pretty smooth...not as much bass, or as detailed as som...
Music trivia anyone? I'm sure the Walrus was originally from some other source, but on "Glass Onion" John does sing the lyrics, "I've got another clue for you all...the walrus was Paul".
Replacing Jumpers = Bi-wiring?? I bi-wired my Mission 753 speakers and it was an improvement over their jumper posts...I don't know if wire jumpers would be an improvement, or not. It probably depends on your speaker. Checking with your manufacturer is probably a good idea.
Honky Tonk Tunes I'd put BR549 into that category...there's another similar band that is also very good, maybe better, but I'm drawing a blank on the name. I'll think of it soon...I swear.
Very good DAC with volume control output The EVS Millenium DAC II has an option that includes their EVS Ultimate Attenuators (www.tweakaudio.com). They have supposedly started shipping them recently, but I don't know if that's true. They've been delaying the ship date since last September.
Counterpoint SA-3.1 and 5.1 Hey Kevziek...I know what you're saying, but many of us buy our components because we like to listen to music through them. We're not all buying them as future investments. Why buy something if you assume you're going to be selling it in the futur...
Digital cable recommendations? Gracias. I goofed on my message. I meant to say $100-$300 (new or used), and of course, I'd be happy to check into any cables that cost less than $100 if they're good.
Monitor Speaker Vote "Face Off"... I recommend checking into used Merlin TSM too.
Good Stuff Cheap I've seen several used Counterpoint amps in that range. That's a great buy if the mosfets are still working. Insert some older Mullards or other NOS tubes, and they can be very nice. The Pioneer Elite DV05 DVD players are selling for $400 or less ...
TEACH ME ABOUT BI-WIRE Jostler3 may be partially right, but he's not completely right. His theory only makes sense if the connection between the bass and treble speaker connections are connected by jumpers made of the same cable as your speaker wire, and your wire and j...
really small speakers less than 500 Mission made some nice speakers in that price range, especially the 750 (if you can find some). I haven't actually heard these, but the nOrh speakers make me curious (www.nOrh.com). I've read that they're great at higher volumes, but not that good...
What makes a speaker thousands more... I'm sure there is plenty tacked on in most cases, but cost does go up to some extent. Some of the ScanSpeak drivers cost $800-$1000 per pair. If they use decent tweeters and woofers, they could easily be spending $800-$1500 on drivers alone. THe n...
DVD PLAYER UPGRADE TIP Do these adapters fit all players?? I have a Pioneer DV-05, and the small cord plugs into a shaped jack in back...similar to a boombox jack.
Integrated Amps: How Good? The owner of Bel Canto did recommend buying the SETi40 over the seperate SEP1 preamp and SET 40 amp. He said it is probably more transparent than having two boxes. I'm not saying that every manufacturer can say the same thing, but he did, and the ... |
