Preamp suggestions needed The Adcom is a good choice...it was designed by Nelson Pass. Another option may be the Norh preamp (www.norh.com). It looks good on paper, but I've never heard one. It has the video pass and a MM phono section, and it costs less than $1000 (includ...
Any good cheap integrated amps? You might also want to look into a nice used integrated or receiver from the 70s. Many of them were built great, cost quite a bit at the time, and may sound better than a cheaper modern integrated.
Best Copper IC under 200. You may be able to find a used 1M (or shorter) pair of Cardas Cross for that amount, and they don't do much wrong. They're worth checking out.
Monster HTM 3500 conditioner is noisy I have the 2000 (or is it the 2500? hmmm...), and mine is quiet too. Your unit has problems.
Class A? "Class A" is also used by Stereophile in their recommended component ratings. You may occasionally see an ad for a component that describes it as "class A", and that may be referring to Stereophile's recommended components list, not amplifier design.
Granite Under Speakers Over A Wood Floor Hey VTVU,You're not having any issues with your set-up, so there's really no problem, but I stumbled across a discussion at audioasylum.com where Bobby from Merlin recommended NOT decoupling Merlin speakers from the floor (which you're doing by pl...
Granite Under Speakers Over A Wood Floor I'd recommend trying coins first. It should cost somewhere between $.06 and $2.00, depending on the coin and the amount of spikes. Although, I hear that old Spanish doubloons are eerily transparent and sublimely musical. :-)
Harman/Kardon A/V Receiver Reliability?? I bought one about eight years ago and my parents are still using it (and AVR65??? I think). I haven't heard anything about their new models. The Denon receivers are also very good, and they might even sound better (I've never compared, but they d...
Could use a little help with Sorbothane I assume that the flat side would go against the component, but I doubt it matter (except for stability). I bought sheets of sorbothane, vut it into squares, and put them under the components stock feet. They work fine, and the 12"x12" sheet cost ...
HELP Speaker Placement- A Nightmare I second the above. I used the info on the Cardas site and it worked very well. Set them up according to their ratio and you'll be 99% of the way there. You can always move them a few inches to account for your room and your personal preference.
Revox Reel Tape Recorder I highly recommend Jack at JM Technical Arts in Nashville. He has been an authorized repair center for years, and he knows what he's doing. I don't have his number with me, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Big name company or smaller company? Don't let yourself be influenced by the cable companies marketing. Almost every single cable company outsources their production...they're not manufacturers...so resources aren't even an issue. Big companies also have more money to throw at review...
How do you ship heavy oversized speakers Merlin ships their speakers by BAX GLobal (Burlington Air Express), and they highly recommend them. Their fares are reasonable, and they will pick up and deliver to your house for a fee. They have a website, but you'd get a more accurate rate if y...
Vintage Marantz Hey Sean,I think most tech guys could replace those screw terminals with some version of a binding post (you may have to supply a decent one). I've seen it done quite often on some Dynaco Stereo 70s. It's probably not all that expensive, but I don...
Best blank CD-R Check out some of the recentposts on the subject. Someone lists a link to a site that focuses on CDRs and it gets complex. THey don't talk about them sounding different, but they do talk about reliability and dependability, out of the box and over... |
