How close to the real thing?
If we were to take a bad transistor radio into a tunnel and get bad reception but could still determine that we were listening to a recording of a piano, would that not be a very low percentage of the real thing, perhaps 1% for the sake of argumen...
What are the optimal percentages for analog system
"The best bang for the buck" is an analog front end in which the separate components are well matched to each other within a certain budget. If they are not well matched, adding money won't help much. Cartridge, arm, table, cable (unless integral ...
What do you currently own as loudspeakers?
I'm with Ebm. Same speakers, too. Where went the OP?
How necessary is a zerostat gun?
I often use it before I play an LP when there is static, and I always use it after I play an LP so that dust stays off as I slide it back into the MOFI inner sleeve.
Solid State Power Amps That Sound Most Like Tubes?
Audiofeil,Do you disagree with the first part of Stingreen's sentence, "The sound of tubes and the sound of solid state are converging..." , the second part, "...so that the best designs are indistinguishable." or both parts? As to the second part,...

Dertonarm,I understand your arm design will be on the market in about a year. Do you care to tell us here on Audiogon anything about it? Raul,What is happening with your tone arm design? Is it as you say a "universal" type design? When will it be ...
what the best amps run revel salon2 stronger bass
Alchemie,Have you compared the DNA-500 or Clayton amps to Pass XA.5? This new generation of Pass Class A amps have excellent bass control on the Eggleston and Magico speakers that I have heard them paired with in my system. I agree with Summitav a...

Though I appreciate the philosophy lesson and agree with Dertonarm that this is a very interesting discussion, I would like to ask a question about these two tonearms.Forgive my naivete, but how can a unipivot arm with one bearing point maintain a...

Just tonearms, yes. But viewed as tools to reach a higher state of musical enjoyment and all that that may entail for some of us, well that is something more, no?
You'll know it when you hear it
The one that has always had me thinking about exactly what is meant by its use was this: the difference between the performance taking place in your room versus you being transported to where the performance is taking place. Just the idea of this ...

Dan,Five minutes is a bit optimistic ;^) The first time I ever heard the Talea was when it was being compared to a Kuzma linear tracker in someone's home system. It actually took be about 15 minutes to recognize its superior performance. Only one ...
