Vinyl presses on last leg? Pressing limitations st I have found that my new re-issues are not as quiet as older LPs in good condition. It's sad to think that quality will only go down from here unless real investments are made on the production side. I'm cleaning old LPs that I buy used.
Ortofon MC A90 cartridge Kipdent,That Dobbins room was one of my three favorite at RMAF. Steve was kind enough to play two of my LPs. I preferred the Allic Puritas on simple female vocals and the A90 on acoustic bass and piano. Others in the room agreed. I think the fact ...
Preamp to go with Pass Labs Rushmore Speaker I too would recommend the Pass preamps, but the OP has given little info. To change the topic slightly, I'm interested to read that there are a few Rushmores out there. I hadn't realized that Pass sold many of these. Could I ask the owners what sp...
When does analog compete with digital? Mapman,I can't answer that question or presume to know what motivates the vendors. I may be under the mistaken impression that vendors want visitors to leave with the best impression possible, regardless of source type. The thread asks when do the ...
2010 RMAF Analog Reports + Meet and Greet Tbg and Lewm,I completely agree with you that the Dobbins/MBL room was extremely good. Steve was kind enough to play two of my LPs while I sat front row, center. I went back to that room four times. I slightly preferred the A90 on "This one's for ...
When does analog compete with digital? I was just at RMAF and heard about thirty systems, half of which had both digital and analog sources. Though I never heard the same music in the same system in both formats, I can say that each time the vendor played both sources, I preferred the ...
Pass Labs XA200.5 Thanks for that mini review Rtn1. I have owned the Aleph 3, 5, and 2 monos. I now own the XA160.5. At first, I too, preferred the Aleph looks because of the rugged purposeful aesthetic that FF mentions, but the current Pass look is growing on me. ...
Threshold to Pass upgrade? I have not heard the Threshold amps, but did own the XA100.5 (see my review) and now have the XA160.5. I would guess that the supersymmetry of the later Pass amps would contribute greatly to lowering the noise and lessening distortion for a more c...
Magico Q5 Wslam,Were did you read MF's review of the Q5? Is it online already? Thanks.
Magic on Cleanse Electrical Power " road ". Raul,Eliminating connections is one reason that I am considering a new tonearm that has one wire from cartridge pin to phono input ie. two connections. My current SME V arm wire has at least two breaks for at least four total connections. This sur...
Graham Phantom B44 2 or Taela ? Dan,You need to update your system photos to include that remarkable looking Talea on your Galibier. See you and the new arm at RMAF.
2010 RMAF Analog Reports + Meet and Greet I'm bringing one female vocal, one bass/piano (This One's for Blanton), one classical violin concerto. Oh, and one note pad. Can't wait to attend my first show and meet some of you guys.
Magic on Cleanse Electrical Power " road ". Raul,Thank you for starting this very interesting thread. A few years ago I gave up outlets and connected my mono amps directly to my electrical panel. The improvement was very audible and details can be read on my system page. Basically, I bought...
Magico Q5 I believe that Michael Fremer will be reviewing the Q5 for Stereophile, so there should be measurements and someone other than JV of TAS with a mainstream review in print. I own the Mini 2 and have heard the M5 and Q5 at dealerships. The Mini 2 so...
Benz Micro LP S vs Air Tight PC-1 w/ files I'm not sure I understand the listening test you just did. Did you compare the sound of the two cartridges by listening to two digital files or did you listen to the actual cartridges using the same table, arm, wire etc? Please clarify. Thanks. |
