Direct drive vs belt vs rim vs idler arm
Halcro, your video of the Victor is most impressive. I'm not sure that many tables would pass that test which such flying colors. Well done. Have you tried this test with the dot falling on a wall that is further away? The video of the Transrotor ...
TriPlanar Tips
I think the design differences between a good 9" arm and a good 12" arm are more than trivial, ie, the length of the shaft. Otherwise, we would see a lot more 12" arms. Simply cutting and glueing is pretty funny advice. Easy yes, but imagine the r...

When changing the length, don't forget about the headshell offset angle.

Yes, and the closer the dot on the wall or paper is to the Timeline pointof origin, the harder it will be to for the eye to detect any drift. So if it looks fine at 18" it may be apparent at 10 feet over time that the speed is off.I agree with Jaz...

For a Timeline test to be truly useful, some standard should be applied. For example, I saw a DD table tested with the Timeline. The owner held a piece of paper behind the turntable and demonstrated that the red dot did not drift during the 20 sec...

Raul, With all due respect, you are wrong about the SME bearings and wiring. As Riccardo Muti said, " CON ME, NO!" A very good friend of mine was a close associate of the late Alastair Roberson-Aikman, the founder of SME. As such he has intimate k...
In-the-Grove lp cleaner
Sorry to hear that. What did your stylus look like after it ran through the residue? I'd contact the sellers or manufacturer to see if there is a remedy.
In-the-Grove lp cleaner
Yikes, I'd get out the AIVS four-step solutions and clean off that residue before playing it again.

Raul, I'm just saying that in my system the 12" SME V-12 sounded more like real instruments than the 9" arm. I own both and paid for both, so the only thing that matters to me is which one I prefer. "What I like" for me means what sounds more real...

My apologies to the OP for going off topic. Raul, I have little experience comparing 9" to 12" tonearms. HOwever, I did do a rigorous two week direct comparison between the SME V and the SME V-12 on the same turntable with the same cartridge and w...

I would like to read about a comparison between the 12" Triplanar, 12" Graham Elite, and the 12" SME V-12. Interesting that the Triplanar and Graham have SME mounts. There seems to be quite a newfound interest in these longer arms. From my experie...

Ptm, I tried your "interesting test" on my SME 30/12 belt drive. Not easy as the motor pulley is under and very close to the large platter. The rubber belt has only 1" of exposed length between the driven pulley and the platter. I felt none of "th...
Magico V3 with tubed amplification, will it work ?
Don't know what Ebm means, but Razmika's post makes a lot of sense. The Magico V3 is pretty inefficient and I would certainly listen to them with tube amps before I committed to buying them.
Stereophile Class A tables
Rsf507, Could you defend your statement about Valin being "dishonest"? Whether you trust his reviews or not does not really matter, but an accusation of dishonesty by a reviewer is another matter.I don't think Valin has any influence on the Stereo...
Stereophile Class A tables
"NEVER" is pretty definitive. I trusted Valin on the Magico Mini 2 and Airtight Supreme cartridge, at least enough to go listen to them before I bought them. His reviews were well written and described pretty much what I hear from those two compon...
