Magico V3 with tubed amplification, will it work ?
I think Ebm is referring only to the needs of the Magico Mini 2 speakers. I also own this speaker and in my room, the Pass XA100.5 was not enough. I find the XA160.5 to be a better sounding amp for these speakers. So the 320 watts of Class A power...

What does 100% overrated mean? They are always overrated by every person who comments on them? Or, every aspect of every Magico speaker is overrated, or something else? Please explain your comment, Mountain-high.
Magico V3 with tubed amplification, will it work ?
I own the Mini 2 and prefer it to both the V3 and the V2. My Pass XA100.5 was not enough for the Mini 2, so I now use the XA160.5 (300 watts at 4 ohms, all Class A and then more in class A/B). I did hear the V2, which I also prefer to the V3 (more...
David Wilson must be a little annoyed...
Interesting thread. There are those who love Magico and those who love Wilson or many other brands. I listened to the Q7 at Goodwins with eight of my own LPs and can only say that the review describes pretty much what I heard. Despite the speakers...
Basis 2500, 2800 or Debut - which would you use?
Yes, I did hear it at Goodwins. I was shopping for cables and was treated to their big room with my LPs. It was very memorable.I could also tap on my stand under my SME table with no audible effect, but the sound did improve when I put the 150 lb ...
Basis 2500, 2800 or Debut - which would you use?
Pops, Are you sure the Basis 2200 is "impervious to mechanical or airborn vibration?" I believe Syntax had his Basis on a Vibraplane and noticed an improvement from the added isolation. I have my SME 30/12 and motor controller on a Vibraplane and ...
Fremer lays an Ostrich egg...
The subject of this thread has come up on Whatbestforum. The principals, namely French Fries and M Fremer (Grooves), seem to have moved on.

French Fries, Please define A, B and C.
Magico S5 review
Usermanual is right on the point. I just heard the Q7 and the lack of coloration was astonishing. I still like my Mini 2, but do clearly appreciate the improvement made in the Q series. Makes me think of that quote, " You can't handle the truth." ...
Price paid for top end equipment
I fear that the disposable cash that some would have used to buy equipment will instead be going to pay higher capital gains taxes or other increasing expenses. There will be those who don't need to ask what a product costs and the rest who will f...
An impression of some phono stages
Don't know which is better, but I tend to prefer the more tonally neutral and transparent phono stage. I want to hear the details. Flavor can be added elsewhere. I tend to agree with Clio. I try to find components which I hear as neutral in my sys...
Pass Labs XP-25 phono
It's been a couple of years, so I thought I would re ask this question. I'd be very interested to hear from XP-25 owners or people who have heard it. Thanks.
An impression of some phono stages
Mordante, You mention that the Pass XP-25 was your previous reference. How would you describe its weaknesses? And did you use it with balanced or single ended outputs? Thanks.
Mod SME 3009 II Improved into "non- improved"?
I have an SME V arm and the counterweight is designed to accommodate different numbers of weights for different cartridges. I don't know if the SME 3009 series can do this. The goal is to add enough weight to allow the counterweight to slide as cl...
Strobe question
IF you can find a light which runs on battery power, it will not be effected by the fluctuating AC line and should provide a more accurate reading. Also if your strobe disk is small enough, you should try to play a dynamic LP as you are checking f...
