SME Baseplate Question
According to my digital caliper, my SME V-12 mounting post or vertical arm column/bearing housing is 23.10 mm or 0.910 inches in diameter. You could also try emailing SME directly for this dimension or looking on the spec sheet on their website.
When a Reviewer "likes" something
I first learned about Jim Smith by reading one of the ads for his book "Get Better Sound" in either TAS or Stereophile. I'm glad I did. I bought the book and hired Jim to voice my system. I suppose I might have eventually heard about Jim some othe...
What to upgrade if at all
For about $2K you can hire Jim Smith to come to your house and voice your system to your room. His service can make a profound difference. You can also consider buying a Vibraplane isolation platform for your turntable which I think is unsuspended...
Magico V2 vs. Q1
Hey, Ebm, there are three Q7s for sale. Can your floors support them? I've heard them and they are excellent.
Magico S5 review
I agree that Magico sounds nice with some warmth somewhere in the chain. I use Pass XA160.5 with my Mini 2s. I'm curious why they always demo at shows with Spectral gear and MIT cables. I think it's a very detailed sound, but the best I've heard t...
Review: Transparent Audio REF XL Speaker cable
Thanks Madfloyd,You can always call Brad at Transparent or your dealer to ask about the Triplanar wire replacement. Regarding the IC for your DAC, yes, you should definitely send it to them for adjustment so that it is configured for your equipmen...
Review: Transparent Audio REF XL Speaker cable
Thanks John for your kind words. I look forward to your possible visit. I'll give you a really special SME tour. Bring your LPs. It's funny. I never really appreciated opera before my recent trip to Vienna. Of course, that is THE place to be intro...
VPI is Introducing a high-end Direct Drive Table
Or you could buy a Vibraplane isolation platform for 1/50th that cost and be done.
Can a Pass Labs XA160.5 Drive a Set Of Thiel CS7.2
Does anyone know what the XA160's actually put out at full Class A/B power? If it's anything like the XA30.5, it will likely be much more than the 160 Class A watts. What don't you like about the X600s? Do they have enough drive but they miss some...
Magico V2 vs. Q1
Stereotaipei and Chayro, Thank you for your descriptions. I hope to hear the Q1 at some point. I love the Q3 having heard it at my local dealer, but it may be too big for my room. Perhaps someday Magico will come out with a Q2.
Magico V2 vs. Q1
Charyro, do you mean from a sonic perspective, a profit perspective, or both? I wonder at this point which design has more sold units. There are quite a few Mini 1 and Mini 2 out there. If what you refer to is a sonic improvement, how would you de...
Magico V2 vs. Q1
Usermanual, could you elaborate? I don't understand your post. Thanks.
Magico V2 vs. Q1
Perhaps, but it was the TAS review by Valin that got me interested in the Magico Mini 2. I read the review, heard the speakers in three different systems and settings and then bought a pair. I couldn't be happier and I'm glad I read that review. F...
Magico V2 vs. Q1
Sirspeedy, Great post. I agree that the Mini 2 is a classic. I did just take a close look at the Q1 at a dealership. It was in the hallway, so I couldn't hear it. It has very high build quality and looks quite good actually, though a very differen...
A Copernican View of the Turntable System
Syntax, I presume that digital level also reads 0.0, 0.0 while it rests on the platter. I would like to know a way to measure how truly vertical the arm shaft is. Any variation in this would be pretty bad for the stylus as it moves along an LP. A ...
