What do you expect a reviewers system to be
Not sure I agree. If a reviewer is reviewing a pair of speakers and he has three amps in rotation, then over time he can try all of the amps with those speakers and inform the reader about differences he may hear.Same could happen with one tonearm...
What do you expect a reviewers system to be
I would like to see more reviews which make direct comparisons between a recently discontinued product with one that has just replaced it. So if a particular reviewer owns and has a lot of experience with a certain brand, then I would like to see ...
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
I agree with Syntax. Regarding the Anna, it is very interesting that Ortofon did not address this in the Manufacturer's Comments in the same Stereophile issue. I wonder why.I do wish more members owned it so we could hear from them about the quali...
'Holographic Sound Stage?'
I attend classical concerts about five or six times a season. A holographic sound stage is not what I first notice or enjoy about the sound of a live orchestra. A few years ago I read a book which attempts to describe sound in the home and how to ...
FURUTECH DeMAG LP DEMAGNETIZER Owners
Thank you Benjie. That is most interesting and unfortunately not what I wanted to learn. I don't really want to have to use my hand held bulk tape eraser for each play and certainly not near my system. What a pain. Perhaps its time to consider the...
FURUTECH DeMAG LP DEMAGNETIZER Owners
Benjie, I was under the impression that one only has to demagnatize the LP once or perhaps a couple of times a year. I think Fremer writes this in his review in Stereophile. But I noticed that Ebm uses both each time he listens just like Benjie doe...
Different amps for summer and winter?
I have a friend who owns the Pass XS150 and the XA100.5. He used the former last Winter and plans to use the latter again this Summer. At least that is the plan because the XS is much hotter. I'm waiting to hear if he has switched over yet.
Fremer's review of the Anna cartridge
I would like to hear it in a very controlled setting with familiar music. I'm sure it is one of a handful of top cartridges that is reaching for new levels of performance. The technology is kind of cool and I'm sure we will see more audio items li...
FURUTECH DeMAG LP DEMAGNETIZER Owners
We are talking about the DeMag unit, right? Furutech also makes a product that removes static. I think that is called the DeStat.I use the Zerostat for static and a bulk tape eraser for demagnifying an LP because both are cheaper than the Furutech...
World's best Pre-amp for $10K and above?
Thank you for the clarification. I was wondering why there was so much discussion about preamps that I thought you wanted excluded by the thread's title. I understand now.
When a Reviewer "likes" something
When a Reviewer "likes" something... ...it seems to me that he has three choices: he can return it, he can buy it for some price he can afford, or he can borrow it for some period of time. There are plenty of "long-term" loans out there.

When a Reviewer "likes" something
The reviewer's income is and should be no one's business. Also, how he or she acquires a component should not be anyone's business either. Once it is asked for in a review though, it creates an impression of bias, in my opinion. That's all.A condi...
World's best Pre-amp for $10K and above?
I don't know if it does, but I agree that it is and it is. I borrowed one to compare to my XP-20. It is better, and it costs more. Someday, I hope to buy one. The down side is that it takes up a lot of space with three boxes which should be separa...
When a Reviewer "likes" something
I can think of at least two reviews in which the reviewer states clearly that he hopes he can work a deal out with the manufacturer so that he can "keep" the review sample. By "keep" I suppose he either means: on an indefinite long term loan or an...
