USB outboard sound card comment
I also am of the understanding that normal 16/44 CD data rates can be handled just fine with USB1. It's when you get into the 24/96 that having USB2 becomes helpful.
Cary Preamps
Note: I notices that someone was looking for a SLP-50a here on Agon. A thought on obtaining that relatively rare unit:I sent my "NEW" preamp (designed by Cary) over to Cary's service dept. to have the tube compliment changed to the same as the 50a...
Clicking noise with M-Audio Audiophile USB
I would recommend that you check out the PC audio forum on audioasylum.com. I seem to recall some discussion of buffering settings you can make. It may be worthwhile to post your question there as well.
Harbeths and Tube Amps
I left Marco to his wiles at my house and he explored the Harbeths with the Cary amps. I haven't even listened to that combination yet! He's a tenacious experimenter... I'll have to do that. I have heard them with other tube amps though, and with ...
Learning about my room and my sound..
Just some random related thoughts... I am in the process of tuning a listening room I put together, and the speakers are Quad 988's. With the radio shack meter, the frequency response is all over the board. A friend is sending me a spectrum analyz...
BAT vs. Quicksilver
I meant- can the Quicksilver V4's run in triode!
BAT vs. Quicksilver
I guess I should chime in here too. I had the Quicksilver Triodes for a while on my Quad 988 system, and I wasn't super jazzed. I thought they were a bit forward in the mids, not very delicate when it came to resolution. That being said, I've hear...
Are most DAC's compatible w computers?
I just spoke with Benchmark and they said there is no USB version coming around the corner. They said that it would be much more expensive than using the DAC1 with a simple USB/SPDIF converter like the M Audio Transit ($75), so it's not cost effec...
AAC or AppleLossless
If you assume that you will (at some time) be porting the data off your HD into a very good DAC via a USB connection, you should definitively use a lossless scheme. I'm not sure it matters what format you choose. I know that testing has shown Appl...
Recommendations please for close-to-wall book-shel
Linn Tukans go close to the wall, and may make it down to 55. Might be more like 60. Not very expensive ($350).
HELP wiring - Romex 10 ga. to cryo or not?
If you really want isolated ground circuits (floating ground), then you will need different outlets. While Porter Ports are great, they are not isolated ground outlets. It may be a non-issue if you are using plastic boxes, but I used metal boxes a...
Need Ambient Speakers to Hang in Corners. Really
Thanks guys. I have decided to keep my Odysee Stratos dual mono for the amp, and just get a preamp with a remote control (any suggestions?). I'm not sure about which speakers yet, but maybe a small set of Totems... Trying to keep the price down (b...
DIY Room treatments..How Large?????
I've made DIY panels, just got them up this weekend. Have only done limited listening so far. My room is 14x18 with a sloped ceiling. I've got 2 2x6's on the front wall, 3 2x4's on the rear wall, a couple on each side wall, and 2 2x6's hanging fro...
Lugnut needs your advice on small speakers
I have to agree with Boa2, I found the triangles on the thin and annoying side, but that was with solid state amps, maybe with a warm tube amp... First order crossover, sounded best around 15 feet away! As for the Spicas, if your friend is really ...
Epos Vs. Neat
I'll just add that I was really impressed with the 12.2's. They are a great bang-for-the-buck speaker that I would recommend to anyone going shopping in the $800 new range.
