No Audiophiles in Hollywood You're right about Hollywood - I can't think of one. But if you want to see a movie that combines passion for music (opera) with high quality audio and recording (Nagra), check out "Diva". Very highly recommended cult classic!
Which Room has More Potential? Assuming an 8-foot ceiling, the 13x24 has resonant modes at 70, 141 and 211 hz and a volume of 2500 cu ft. The 14x16 has resonant modes 70, 141, 211, 282, 320 and 353 hz and a volume of almost 1800 cu ft. It's my understanding that modes above 300...
Amp for Quad ESL 57? Viggen - I don't have the link on hand, but there used to be a lengthy document put together by a german fellow that listed a bunch of amps that are well known for complimenting the '57's. You should look around for it. I think I found a link on a...
Now I Really Need a Power Conditioner? ? You might want to consider this approach to power conditioning. Depending on your "battery bank", it could keep you going for 4-8 hour of listening. I don't know where you are moving, but where I live (in the country), power is typically restored...
Eliminating static electricity from albums?? Rockvirgo - I think you have proved my method non-scientific! That is because before I shake (or "wobble" the record, I touch it to my nose. Then I wobble it, then test it by touching it to my nose again. The second time there is no static. Go fig...
Eliminating static electricity from albums?? Has anyone noticed that if you take a statically charged record, hold it with hands at 180-degrees, and shake it back and forth (like you would shake a piece of sheet metal to make thunder, so it vibrates in and out), the static goes away. I disco...
Shelter 501mkii Cantilever Angle - Need Help Thanks Doug. I mean 2 mm between the small gray plastic piece that the cantilever actually comes out of. This piece sits below the black cartridge body. I assume that this is the dust shield?
Audible Illusions Modulus 3A Gain?? moving coil DP, I have just done the same research and sent away for one (used). My research indicates that there is plenty of gain, and that you should have no problem. I think someone who has one in house will confirm this for you. You can also change the l...
"do it yourself" acoustics Full bookshelves on side walls - both, to get rid of the squareness or your room?
Helping a friend put together a sub-$1000 system The Epos sound real good with the NAD 320BEE - I put a system together for a friend with these. A good front ported speaker that went well with the BEE is the Linn Tukan, but you'd be lucky to get them for $400. The work well close to walls.
Harbeth Compact 7's Rlmm - I like the way the sound with my Odyssee Stratos Dual Mono (180 wpc), and they also sounded really good with a Plinius 102. From what I've read you are right, they are generally favored with SS amps over 150 wpc. Good luck and tell us what ...
GMA Europa owners, what amps do you use? Anyone have suggestions for integrated amps that could be used to construct a more budget oriented system with the Europas? I've heard that some vintage SS integrateds can work well with these speakers.
To Hot to Handle? The EAR 509 mkii isn't too hot (relatively), using two PL509 output tubes to put out 100 watts per monoblock. It's also a wonderful sounding amp. But I don't live on the east coast! Neither it or the Berning are under $2500 though. The Berning (wh...
what spkrs work with an 8008st??? A fellow with Quad from England told me that he thought this amp combines fabulously with the 988's. I don't know if that is something you would consider.
Odyssey Stratos/Ayre V3/or CJ MV-55 Just for your information, the Stratos is a great amp but does have an input impedence of 10 kohm. You'll want to make sure your preamp has <1000 ohm output impedence. |
