McIntosh MC2102 owners past and present Jamnesta - so you are mono-blocking? Was one amp not sufficient to drive the Dali's? What preamp are you using?
McIntosh MA2275 Bi-amping I think option #1 is a likely possibility. Suggest you contact McIntosh technical support... they are always very helpful. Let me know what you find out as I previously owned the MC275 and currently own the MA2275.
Best amps to pair with dynaudio C2 Like Nutella, I too used Plinius with my C2's with good results. I used the SA-102 MKII, which can be had for far less than your budget ($2,500 used).
Best amps to pair with dynaudio C2 As a former C2 & C4 owner, I can't recommend Simaudio, even though many have said there is good synergy between the two. I tried a pair of Sim W6 monoblocks for a few days and quickly sold them. For solid state I would be much more inclined to...
newbie mania The impedance curve of the 2.5's is very benign, rarely dropping below 8 ohms... so yes, either the Cayin 88 or the 100 will work well. Definitely recommend you go with tubes, regardless of what you end up with.
Quicksilver_ProAc I've used two 75 WPC McIntosh tube amps with my Harbeth M-40.1's with no problem and they have very similar efficiency rating as your ProAc 3.8's but the imdedance goes slightly lower 5 ohm min. Either amp should be fine IMO, so I'd save a few buc...
Have you ever deceived your wife-audio purchase 01-06-11: Paul_grahamChad thinks it's funny, but he doesn't want Liz to know. That's LOL funny... good stuff!
Natural and Neutral could be boring .. Ditto Ckoffend's recommendation of the Aesthetix Calypso. I sold mine to go with an integrated tube amp, but will likely go back to the Calypso if/when I go back to tube separates. Really a great preamp when used with the right NOS tubes (amperex ...
Tube amp advice My experience is that once I tried a tube amp, I have been unable to return to (enjoy) solid state amps.
Preamp match for a mcIntosh 275 Mechans suggestion of the AES AE-3 would be a good move if a budget line stage is what you want. If you have a higher budget ($2,500 on the used market), I had good luck matching an Aesthetix Calypso line stage (with NOS tubes) with the MC275 MKV,...
Creek Destiny or Rogue Cronus Magnum? Vinyladdict - While I can't discount your statement that the Cayin is a better value from a price / performance standpoint, I would still seriously consider the Rogue as it is American made and I know I would get long term support if I would need ...
Jolida Reliability For the money, I think Jolida offers good dependable value. I've owned one of their tuners a CDP and still own a hybrid integrated and have never had any problems or need for repair.
Creek Destiny or Rogue Cronus Magnum? When in doubt, go with tubes (in this case the Rogue). You can customize the sound to your liking by rolling tubes.
Audio Aero Capitole 192 MK II se upgrade I had my local tech (Alpha-Tech Electronics in St. Louis) replace the tubes in my Capitol 24/192 Mk 1 with Jan Phillips 6021's (not cryo'ed) from Tube World and they sound just fine.
Can the Harbeth 40.1's boggie ????? Garebear... sorry the 40.1's are not working out for you. I've had mine for about 20 months and I love them. Suggest you experiment a bit more before giving up on them. I like them best with Mac tube gear... McIntosh MC 275 MKV with NOS Telefunken... |
