Aesthetix Calypso vs. ? I've had a Calypso for about 3 years and it's been my favorite preamp by far vs. my previous preamps, which included the Joule LA-150 & BAT VK30. It responds big-time to tube rolling, but sounds only so-so with the stock Sovtek's. You HAVE TO ...
Best Overall Value in a KT-88 tube SED KT88 & Gold Lion Reissues are my faves. Buy them from Upscale Audio and they are thoroughly tested and arrive with a special 72 hour burn-in already performed, so they sound great right out of the box.
Recommend an integrated amp for my Harbeth 40.1's Well, my experiment with trying to go back to a lower cost solid state set up has been short lived. I've realized that I won't be satisfied with anything but tubes, so I've sold the Musical Fidelity and will be buying a McIntosh MA2275 tube integr...
Amp for Harbeth 7ES3 If sound quality is your sole priority, go with tubes. The AR VSI 60 or 55, Cary SLI 80 and VAC Avatar (difficult to find) are all reputable.
Ayre K-3 vs Plinius CD-LAD I owned a CD-LAD years ago and think you can do much better. Have not heard the Ayre, but based upon reputation, I think it would be a significant improvement over the CD LAD. You may want to consider a tubed preamp as well... Aesthetix, CJ, Audio...
Tannoy VS Dynaudio Also consider the Tannoy setup is being driven by tube gear I assume, vs. your Dynaudio's being driven by an entry level solid state integrated. Maybe consider using a tube integrated with your 52SE's. Thinking a Cary SLI 80 would be a good choice.
Amp for Harbeth 7ES3 Shameless plug: Just listed my McIntosh MC-275 MK V that is driving my Harbeth M-40.1's. The sound is simply sublime with Harbeth IME, and it is the the best sounding amp I have owned. Only selling to downsize to a ss integrated so I can free up s...
Recommend an integrated amp for my Harbeth 40.1's I just sealed a deal for a Musical Fidelity Nuvista M3 integrated. Hoping there will be British synergy between the Harbeths and the Mus. Fidelity .
Recommend an integrated amp for my Harbeth 40.1's I've owned the Plinus 8200 MK II and thought it was a solid integrated, but a bit too warm and lacking transparency for the already warm Harbeths.Any thoughts on the Musical Fidelity Nuvista M3? Seems to have plenty of power and has a decent follo...
Has your audio system gotten you into new music? Yes, this holds true for me. I now listen to a lot of classical, as well as jazz and female vocals.
Speakers in 10-15K price range for Classical music Weseixas - While the 40.1's would not appear to be easy to drive by looking at the efficiency rating (spec'ed @ 86db/1w/1m), they have a flat impedance curve, rated at 6 ohm nominal / 5 ohm minimum. Furthermore, the beauty of the Harbeth sound is ...
Speakers in 10-15K price range for Classical music Weseixas - my 40.1's are easily driven with a moderately powered tube amp (McIntosh MC275). Rather than criticizing others suggestions on a speaker you don't have legitimate knowledge on, why don't you come up with some recommendations for the OP.
Speakers in 10-15K price range for Classical music I agree with Nolitan... my Harbeth 40.1's are exceptional with classical music. Full bodied, dynamic and natural sounding with no listener fatigue.
Advice buying a Music Server? Just Olive 4HD? Is the Apple TV better sounding than the Airport Express, and if so, why? I tried streaming AIFF files from my IMAC thru an Airport Express into the DAC of my Audio Aero Capitol cdp and the sound was not close to cd quality. I've since gone back t...
Calling Harbeths 40.1 owners I have my 40.1's in a 4.6m x 6m room and I LOVE them (note: short ceiling @ only 2.1 meters). My room is well treated with 8 GIK 244 panels. I originally powered them with a Plinius SA 102 class A ss amp with decent results, and currently drive th... |
