ML 335 vs Plinius SB301 Suggest you look at a Plinius SA-102 or 103, rather than the 301 that only runs in class AB. I owned the SA-102 for several years. It runs in class A, which is what gives it a superior sound to it's competitors that run in class AB. It was the bes...
Amps and integrateds w/ similar sonic sig to MC275 I've owned both the MC 275 MKV and the MA2275. They do not sound the same. The MC 275MKV is superior. Suggest you bite the bullet, do it right the first time and just buy another MC 275. I paired it with an Aesthetix Calypso with NOS tubes... a ve...
Amp for Focal Scala Utopia The MC275 is one of the best amp's I've ever owned. I'd upgrade your preamp first, then if you feel you need more power, add a second MC 275. Also, upgrade your tubes in your amp if you have not already done so.
Comparison of Devore silverbacks vs harbeth 40.1 While the 40.1 definitely fit the bill in regards to sounding full bodied and forgiving, I'm not sure they'd be optimal for you given your limited placement considerations. I'd be concerned the bass would be over-emphasized and they'd sound boomy....
What preamps outshine the Aesthetix Calypso? I agree with Ckoffend. I had the stock Calypso and loved it, but sold my seperates to try an integrated. The integrated route left me wanting.... so now I'm back to a tube amp with a Calypso Signature. If you do try another preamp, keep your Calyp...
Your best ''outstanding'' products in last 5 yrs? VAC Renaissance 30/30 MK III tube amp. Aesthetix Calypso. Harbeth M-40.1's.
re tubing C2300 and MC2102 For 12AX7's, the Mullard CV4004 platinums are nice balanced tubes and won't break the bank. Amperex Bugle Boys are nice as well, but I've found them to be noisy... but I may have just acquired a noisy pair. Telefunken smooth plates are nice as wel...
Which Amp to Choose McIntosh MC7200 or MC275-V? loved my time with the MC275 MKV. Great full bodied airy amp. Responds to tube rolling.
Wanted to share with GON members my new "JOB" Congratulations.... it's wonderful to have a job in a field you are passionate about!
Preamp for Plinius SA-103 I used the Aesthetics Calypso with NOS tubes when I had a Plinius SA-102 & Dynaudio C4's. Can roll tubes to suit your tastes. Highly recommended.
McIntosh and "hard" music? MC275 MKV has plenty of guts and drive, especially for an amp rated @ 75wpc. Upgrading the driver and signal tubes to quality NOS is worthwhile.
Looking for a warm linestage preamp I agree with Ckoffend. I owned the stock Calypso for a few years... sold it... regretted it... and now own the Calypso Signature version. Make sure you research and use high quality NOS tubes.
ARC DSI200 or Bryston 4bsst2 & ARC SP16L If you are looking to add warmth and dramatically increase your listening enjoyment, you should go with a decent tube amp. The McIntosh MC 275 MK V is a great sounding gutsy tube amp that would sound great with your Dyn's. I owned that Mac amp as ...
Most helpful audio companies Aesthetix, Conrad Johnson & McIntosh are the best I've experienced. In all cases, I had bought my products second-hand.
