Stereo and Fish tanks - noisy need help Between the two (Fluval & Eheim), the Eheim is supposed to be the best.
Speaker purchase - LOW ceilings My listening room is 15 x 21 with ceiling height varying from 6 to 7 feet. I don't have any problem with my current speakers and small sub in this room. Your room, while not ideal, will probably benefit from room treatments and possibly a preamp w...
Stereo and Fish tanks - noisy need help I only have a 75 gallon tank in my listening room, but it's dead quiet with the Eheim canister filter I use. Not sure if Eheim makes canister filters large enough for a tank as large as yours, but maybe Johnsonwu can speak to that.
Aesthetix Calypso vs ARC LS25 MK2 Defride - I have not had issues with tube noise from either the stock Calypso or the Signature version. I think the original stock version of the Calypso had some issues that were purely tube related, but that was overhyped. I've never had a probl...
Pilnius SA-103 vs. Modwright KWA 150SE Charles,Your point is quite valid, but I've owned far less expensive tube amps like the McIntosh MC275 MKV which was an incredibly good for the money... and it far exceeded performance of all the solid state amps I've owned from YBA, BAT, Simaudio...
Tube sites/books, recommendations please Ditto the suggestion for Brent Jesse's informative website. He's also a very good source for reasonably priced, high quality tubes, as is Andy at Vintage Tube Services.BTW, don't stop with just getting a tubed preamp... you have to go the full dis...
Pilnius SA-103 vs. Modwright KWA 150SE I owned a Plinius SA-102 (which is quite similar to the later SA-103) for several years. It's quite good for solid state, but ultimately, I still prefer a good tube amp. I don't think the Modwright runs in class A... so between the two, I'd go wit...
Warm Rich Lush Speakers...Recommendations? Harbeth SHL5's or used M-40.1's. They fit your description to a T. I owned the M-40.1's for several years, and still miss the warm, romantic, full bodied, organic sound they produced.
My Final Amplifier Purchase - What Would You Buy? I owned and enjoyed the Plinius SA-102 for several years... and while I liked it, there's still no substitute for a good tube amp. Therefore, I would be looking for a reputable, higher power tube amp in the 80 to 120 WPC range. The McIntosh MC275 ...
Aesthetix Calypso vs ARC LS25 MK2 Depends what you consider inexpensive. I'd say you'll need to spend a minimum of $400 to $500 to do it right. Don't try to skimp on tubes or buy from a dealer without a solid reputation or you may regret it.You'll need two closely matched 12AX7's ...
Aesthetix Calypso vs ARC LS25 MK2 I've owned the standard Calypso, but sold it along with my tube amp thinking I'd enjoy the simplicity of an integrated amp... turned out to be a mistake that was regrettable. Now I'm back to separates and stepped up to the Calypso Signature. Both ...
Favorite 300B: Sophia vs KR Have been following this thread off and on for a while. Where do KR 300B's fall into the mix? Do past quality control & warranty issues put them out of consideration? I know of a fellow Audiogoner that swears by them for his VAC Renaissance 70...

PASS LABS SERVICE - GOLD star That is exceptional service. Thanks for sharing.
VAC 30/30 & Sophia 6SN7's You need to change to a 6SN7 tube with a GTA or GTB suffix. Almarg's suggestions of going with vintage 1950's Sylvania 6SN7GTB's is a good one. |
