Tube amp Friendly Speaker That Sounds like Klipsch Cornwall
The CW IV does have two internal braces between the motor board and the rear panel. This is what I mentioned above and it has clearly cleaned up the midbass resonance the older cornwalls were known for.Oz

The additional bracing and horn ports of the  CW IV have erased the boxiness of Cornwalls of yore. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by poor build quality of this speaker. Sure the xover could have better quality parts, but that's all I can think...
How Much Power Do Vandersteen 5a's Really Need?
pick the right tool for the job. Broad sweeping statement, but I’ll bite.Well designed horns with high quality supporting components can be every bit as articulate, detailed and refined as -insert your brand of low sensitivity loudspeaker here-. ...

So you are saying all high efficiency speakers are "dump trucks"? Please tell me I misunderstood you.......

I don't have experience with the Cornwall IV but I do have some experience with horn design, and imo the midrange horn in the Cornwall IV looks like it would have less coloration than the old-style horn.    I have owned KG 3.5s, Cornwall IIs, C...

Although I am firmly entrenched in the "more efficiency, the better" camp, 140 tube watts should be fine to drive these speakers.Oz

but i am quite surprised to hear you say the x series lacked resolution to your ears I didn't say the X3 wasn't revealing, it is. What I meant was that I disagree that the CW IV is not revealing, because it is too. I think my one disappointment...
preamp upgrade suggestion around $2000
I got the same result with a SLI-80 signature integrated. Very smooth and non fatiguing, but ultimately boring. Not much resolution.Oz

Out of the ones you mentioned I only have experience with the Cary and the Sachs.Only buy the SLP-98 if your system is bright and you want to tame it. A LOT. The Cary is warm and lush to a fault, at least to my ears.I currently have the Don Sachs ...

@jjss49 I sold my spatial audio X3s, which were mighty fine speakers, for a pair of Cornwall IVs. I disagree about how revealing these speakers are. The only two areas I can think of that the X3 pull ahead of the CW are refinement and bass extensi...

The CW IV is very sensitive to setup and placement, very chameleon like. In my room they sound best when the axis crosses several feet behind my head. Too much or too little toe in can make them sound edgy or mediocre. But get it right and it is g...

JBL 4349 or Klipsch Cornwall IV
I owned the cornscala C version a few years ago. While it is a good speaker, it came with it's own set of problems. First, the crites xovers had to go and were replaced by an ALK version with adjustable taps for the mids. I also wrapped the midran...

I'm not sure I'd call them forgiving, but they don't shine a light on poor recordings.  I can listen to most anything on them.@mijostyn, are you talking about earlier Cornwalls or the latest?Oz

I have owned the CW IV for about six months now and I'm extremely happy with it. It takes a bit of work to get the placement right, but when you do, you will be rewarded. Great tone and texture and dynamics are just what you expect from horns.Oz
