LOL, twice, Fatparrot. One could, of course, spend that same amount on something that looks like it came out of a Star Wars plastic factory. Could you aim that gun a little higher please?

Gorgeous! Visually, much more spouse friendly than most competitors. Gotta trust Twl in analog so if he recommends the sound, need more be said?

Paradigm or Monitor Audio's?? Any thoughts?
Agree with Aball. I've auditioned both and prefer the 40s. But, my tastes tend toward the smooth and neutral, maybe a tiny bit laid back. Both are good speakers. The Monitors are just a little brighter and forward. It's a matter of personal prefer...
$9.99 CD Alert at Tower Records
Thanks for the recommendation Trelja. I shopped online (it's easy to narrow the search to the discounted prices -- just click on the big $9.99 area). Spent too much probably; but I'm really going to enjoy the music when it arrives.
Just for looks?
mg2am, all things equal, I would always go with the more robust power supply. But again, a very well built class B design in a thin case could indeed sound better to you than a huge amp with a huge power supply. Let your ears decide.
Just for looks?
All things equal, the larger the power output of an amp (e.g., 30 watts compared to 100 watts -- assuming the same kinds of watts measures are used), the larger the power supply transformer and power supply capacitors need to be. The power supply ...
Is it worth it?
THX costs more because 1) Licensing fees and 2)Mandatory specs that drive up system cost. By the way, the audio and video switching is also pricey so drives costs up.I have an older Lexicon pre that does a nice job, even when it's not in THX mode....
A Tough Question
Distortion, nice phrasing. We are not owned by objects but by our intentions. P.S. Thanks for the kind words Kublakhan
A Tough Question
Possessions don't own you, obsessions do. Since obsessions are yours to begin with, you essentially own yourself ;-)
hardwood floors and spikes
Bomarc, I'll give you my two cents (pun intended) but regardless of the theory, the spikes on top of discs have worked for me. The sound is much more three dimensional and the midrange is tighter. Here's my theory. First, the weight of the speaker ...
hardwood floors and spikes
I agree about the brass footers. Just make sure they are sized for your speakers (larger diameter for larger speakers) to avoid leaving indentations on the floor. Old hardwood flooring is much harder than newer hardwood flooring made from faster g...
Why 78rpm, 45rpm, and 33.3rpm?
Here's a link Lugnut was kind enough to provide in another thread. http://www.ifrance.com/c-i-f/hificol.htmlNot sure about the rest of it but look forward to reading some responses.
Good DVD Concert?
Eagles, King Crimson, the new Led Zeppelin.
Need some audiogon expertise
Great points made above. Speaker positioning is generally a good starting point. Your room dimensions aren't bad so that shouldn't cause too many problems. I assume you have a fairly standard room -- i.e., not too many large openings into other ar...
