Best Amplification for SACD?
Consider the Jeff Rowland Design integrated amp. Very good sound quality with outstanding looks. Don't know whether it mates perfectly w/ the Dynaudio, but it's a very flexible piece of equipment.
Satisfaction Guarenteed?
I like to listen to music. The audiophile thing is merely a means towards that goal. However, in practice it's rarely that clear cut. The equipment can become a fetish and like all obsessive behavoir, at its core is a state of disatisfaction. At t...
Aleph-3 Questions
I've owned Aleph 5s and what I like best about them is that they don't have much of a sound. They don't sound spectacular. They don't impress. There are no thunderous lows, or crystalline highs. What impressed me most about the Pass is that it dis...
What does what?
Let me clarify -- the main system components I was referring to in my earlier post are the preamp and amp. I do not believe that amplifier manufacturers are equally good at making CD players or tuners. Also by implication I favor integrated amps a...
how to reduce background hmmmmm/noise
Is the hum only on the phono input? Make sure your cables are properly arranged such that the power cords are segregated from the signal carrying interconnects. Another possibility is that you have not properly grounded the tonearm/cartridge.
DB-25 Interconnects?
Try pro audio shops. The DB-25 is sometimes used on multitrack recorders. It still may be a special order.
What does what?
As your components increase in resolution the synergy between components becomes increasingly more important. This synergy is so crucial that spending large sums of money on components, if not properly matched, will actually result in a worst soun...
Best Speakers for small room under $3.5k
Outlier, try this, it will cost you nothing and is very revealing of what you really need. Don't listen to your system for 1 to 2 weeks. During this "no system" time try to listen to as much music as possbible (in the car, table radio, TV, etc.) F...
Will my speakers be damaged if I use
Three of the above responses recommend that you go ahead and use an amp with a power rating significantly above your speaker manufacturer's receommended limit. These people are not entirely wrong. Yes, amplifier clipping can damage tweeters. Yes, ...
Will my speakers be damaged if I use
Although it is unlikely that your proposition will result in damage, why take the risk? Listening to music is supposed to be enjoyable. Worrying about whether your amp will destroy you speaker will make this activity less enjoyable.
Vinyl vs. CD
Craig, I question whether your system has been optimized for CDs. More likely its optimized for you ML components. Assuming a reasonable level of neutrality, your system should not be particularly sensitive to whether the source is analog or digit...
What is your reference?
Subaruguru, thanks for comments. They are among the most intelligent and insightful I've come across any Audiogon forum. You obviously have a passion for and have educated yourself about music. The pursuit of sonic accuracy is extremely important ...
wow, a newbie power cord convert
A note of skepticism. I have no doubt that power cords can positively/negatively effect the sonics of a medium to high resolution sound system, however, I suspect that it's a "hit or miss" proposition. Furthermore, similar to other cable products,...
Velodyne Subwoofer Problem?
Did you buy this from a local authorized Velodyne dealer? If so they should replace it. A good dealer would come to your house to remove the defective unit and install the new one. If a new unit was not readily available, they might even lend you ...
Hypothetical Question!
Your experiment won't damage your equipment, however, I doubt it will reveal much about the cables. First, your listening room would have to be absolutely acoustically symetric. Second, you need to listen in mono. If you use a stereo source the sp...
