Anyone heard the Vandersteen model #5? Avguy, I have no in home experience with either, only show room demos. Very impressed with the Aerial, but told by dealer that they require big wattage amplifiers. The Vandys did everything just a little better, but not dramatically so, IMO. I wou...
Anyone heard the Vandersteen model #5? Avguy, assuming you are adequately driving the Aerials, it's not a cost effective upgrade to go to the Vandersteen 5. The Vandys are a better speaker, but the differences are not earth shattering.
Current CD playes and transports I'm beginning to feel sorry for the CD boys & girls out there is audiophile land. It will take a few years, but the CD format will lose its position as the dominant audio format. MP3 formats coming from below and DVD from above. The middle wil...
Rowland Amps.....which one for me Also consider the Model 1 in a mono configuration (200wpc). A word of caution, try to audition the amp first. Matching Rowland preamps with their power amps from this vintage will have a very distinctive sound (a golden glow, more mellow than deta...
B&O, overpriced artistic piece of audio? Redkiwi, only those who have risked everything know the true pleasure of living.
1 million dollar speaker made by Kharma I agree with Lotuss4. While I may not be able to afford, or for that case even desire a $1,000,000 speaker, who am I to place limits on what others may covet? I don't drive a Rolls-Royce, but I respect the right (and it is their right) to indulge ...
Best upgrade for the money ? Before changing any equipment following Dekay's advice. Speaker placement and vibration issues are the most effective tweaks. Your interconnects and cables are fine, they should be the last thing you need to change. After you address the setup iss...
B&O, overpriced artistic piece of audio? Everybody is making the process of picking equipment sound so damned logical. Maybe it should be, but then again, maybe it shouldn't. Have any of you every done something just because it didn't make sense? Stop being so serious. It's possible that...
1 million dollar speaker made by Kharma Based upon the above posts the idea of a million dollar speaker is over the top. But if you were to ask the average consumer what they thought of some audiophiles' $30k tube amps, $20k CD players, $10k cables and $2k power cords they probably woul...
B&O, overpriced artistic piece of audio? I personally wouldn't do what Bemop is contemplating, but I think I understand why he would consider it. Why shouldn't audio equipment look great? Style counts. Some companies understand. Take a look at Sonus Faber, Jeff Rowland or Avalon. A compo...
Natural sound (REL Subwoofers) I use a pair of REL Stadiums (w/ Monitor Audio 50s) and the combo works wonderfully. I also auditioned the smaller Audio Physics sub and thought it was a very good product. I don't think you can go wrong with either product. Care must be taken to ...
Audio & the Emperor’s new clothes. Today, nearly every piece of "serious" audio equipment sounds good. In the 70s this wasn't the case, hence truly good sounding stuff really stood out. As high end equipment has evolved the differences in sound quality are narrowing, but the import...
B&O, overpriced artistic piece of audio? Sound quality is not the sole criteria for equipment selection! The visual presentation of a product is critical. Bemop, if the looks are that important, then go for it and be happy. You will lose sound quality, but so what. After all, even the mo...
Alesis MasterLink CD-R/Hard Drive record I stand corrected, the high format disk will play on CD-ROM computer drives. Check out the review in 7/00 Mix, or visit alesis.com for more info.
Alesis MasterLink CD-R/Hard Drive record I've heard good things about this product, but I'm wary that it works upon a non-standard format. It's my understanding that the higher sampling rate CDs will not work on other players (CD or DVD). |
