My speaker makes noise ?
The thump you hear is normal. However, for better sound quality you should never turn your digital components off. The DAC typically needs to reach thermal stability to perform at its maximum. This is best done by leaving it on all the time.
Upsampling DACS: Take the Pepsi Challenge
Thanks Megasam, the HFNRR article was most interesting. Thanks Greysquirrel for going to a source with cred. I agree with Carl's first 8/2 posting -- yes, you are not the real expert here. BTW, you really do owe Deborah1 an apology. Your 8/1 comme...
Upsampling DACS: Take the Pepsi Challenge
It's interesting, the emotional truth at the core of music has nothing to do with the quality of the sound. Maybe that's why alot of musicians don't have audiophile quality systems. The music really is only in your head. Deaf people have composed ...

Upsampling DACS: Take the Pepsi Challenge
dCS, the British company that made the first upsampler product, readily admits that there is no known reason why upsampling should sound any better than oversampling. The processes are fundamentally the same. Since many well-trained listeners repo...
Your opinions on Audio Artistry?
You're correct in that Audio Artistry does have a low profile in the U.S. This in spite of the fact that their products have received rave reviews (Stereophile, Fi, Positive Feedback). A local Chicago dealer (who does not carry the line) told me t...
DA CONVERTER FOR MULTI DISK
The price of DACs are falling further every week. At the current rate of price decline, six months from now, people will pay you to take their DACs. Seriously, why go for a reasonable DAC. For less than $1,500 you can get, if not a great unit, at ...
Cheap Tweeks
This tweak is system dependent. Place vibration sensitive components on half inch thick glass slabs. A local glass shop charged me $25/each for 14" by 18" pieces. I rest the glass on top of BDR cones or Isopods. This results in a subtle, but worth...
Power cords at ridiculous prices?
Carl, I readily admit a power cord can make a difference, but I take the position that they should be used as part of an overall electric service upgrade. Doing so will maximize the effect of the power cord. Megasam, power cords are passive, at be...
Power cords at ridiculous prices?
Although I have no doubt that changing power cords can effect, both positively or negatively, sound quality, I do not use specialty cords. The power cord is only the final element of electric power delivery and it should only be upgraded after the...
Pass Aleph amps with PS300 or PS600?
I have the Pass preamp, but the model 5 power amp. Recently acquired a P600. According to the P600 panel display the system (including phono preamp, CD and DAC) draw between 370 to 430 watts. The musical advantages of the P600 are as advertised. G...
Upgrading audio from speakers...Help!
What you're doing is very dangerous. Forums such as these can be entertaining and even informative, but the random opinions of others (myself included) will probably generate confusion. Nobody replying to your post will ever sit in your music room...
Dream System. Spectral or Levinson.
59, give us more information. Why do you want a system like this? Either system will require extensive setup and room acoustical treatment. Strong dealer support is critical. If you don't have a dealer you can trust, then I caution you about getti...
Dream System. Spectral or Levinson.
I don't get it! The two systems you're considering are "statement" quality. Assuming you have good local dealer support, and if you don't I question why you would purchase these components, what can anyone on-line tell you about the choice. Your r...
My Only Question Is.........
The purpose of a preamp is not to "improve" the sound of the source component. The best a preamp can do is not to degrade the music signal passing through it. Anyway that's how it works with an analog preamp. A fully digital preamp is a whole othe...
