Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
It's not a preamp, it's a volume control. Preamps have multiple inputs. Some even have balance controls, tape outs, tone controls, phase reversal and volume mute, but at a minimum a preamp lets you select sources.
classical label monitors
It depends upon the type of music being mixed and assumptions about how it will be played back. For classical it's usually mixed for accuracy. It's similar for jazz. For pop, rap, modern country it can be very different and "compromise" mixes are ...
Pass XA30.5 enough power for Wilson Sophia 2?
I have a very large room and I'm not going to tell anybody the dimensions! And certainly not in cubic feet. Nor am I going to state in decibels the SPL I normally listen at. Nope, I'm just not going to tell anybody that info.
Why three motors?
Whatever variations, irregularities, etc. in one motor are averaged or even canceled out by the other motors. It should lead to better speed stability, both long and short term.
What is Musicality?
Appreciate is the wrong word. I think understand/comprehend is better. When viewing a movie, another film director would better understand how the film is made, but it doesn't mean he/she would appreciate it any better than a non-director. I can e...
Looking for the Honda S2000 of turntables
Shrevie, save up for something in the $3k to $4k range. My experience is that I wasted more money in mid-range upgrades then I actually spent in getting better quality components. $2k is not enough money to get a significant upgrade over what you ...
Robert Johnson's records mastered at wrong speed?
There's been controversy about this for years. It was common to speed up recordings due to both commercial and technical reasons. 78s held only 3 minutes and getting a more upbeat, commercial sound was desired. It's also been endlessly debated wha...
Anyone Use A CD Recorder For Main Play Back?
I'm not saying I ever tried it, but if I did do it I wouldn't admit to it let alone put it on the internet. If I were you I'd have this post removed before the Audiophile Special Squad (A-S-S) kicks in your door and takes away your special decoder...
Black-Eyed-Peas, the future of modern music?
Synthfreek, I've never heard any Kenny G. that I liked, but I can imagine that somewhere, at sometime he has or will produce something that I like. Who knows, it might even be a duet with Micheal Bolton. My first musical ignorance moment came back ...
Reel to Reel decks
Dopogue, if you don't know about the compression effect of tape heads, then you should read some of the following:A tech explanationA discussion of the variables involvedTape compression can sound so good that several companies make effect process...
Reel to Reel decks
Just because someone has a preference for one source over another doesn't mean the preferred source is a more accurate reproduction of the music. Tape decks are well know for adding a gentle compression to the signal which can be interpreted as ad...
Black-Eyed-Peas, the future of modern music?
That's not logic! You're just glorifying your ignorance. And nothing's wrong with being ignorant as long as you know you're ignorant.
dual volume controls?
Rwwear, you are absolutely correct when you say that a balance control is an additional filter between the music and the listener. To put that in perspective you should do the following thought experiment. Starting at the microphone in the recordi...
dual volume controls?
Rwwear, thank you for giving me permission to listen to my system how I want. I didn't know I needed your permission, but apparently you're in a giving mood, so I'll accept.Yes, it's the recording that can use correction. Not all recordings, but i...
dual volume controls?
A balance control can be very useful in bringing better soundstage focus. To say that the need for a balance control indicates problems elsewhere in your room/system is just plain wrong. If a designer/manufacturer can't design/implement a reasonab...
