How to listen to the good stuff? Two points:you're confusing words with how music actually sounds. Audio writers are writers and they have developed a specific vocabulary that while sounding nice is actually quite meaningless. It's like "Star Trek" talk, "the warp coils are being...
Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 The Mesa Boogie will work in home stereo applications. Here's a quote from the owner's manual:The Strategy 400 Stereo is a modern, all-tube power amplifier-hand-built in the musical instrument tradition. Producing 200 watts of mid-band power-- the...
"They are here" vs. "You are there" Al, I agree with you about the purist recordings, but then we're talking about what amounts to probably less than .1% of recording output.Your point about the sound aura. There are venues and types of music where the acoustics of the venue are par...
"They are here" vs. "You are there" This is a good, intelligent discussion.IMO the original question is another example of overstating the importance of soundstage/imaging in high end audio. As a system's resolution increases you'll hear more soundstage information, but in and of it...
Sound cards that output native I could be wrong about this, so read with that in mind. I don't think it's the soundcard that's in control. Your playback software tells the soundcard what to do. I think you need playback software that auto selects.
YG Acoustics or Dynaudio Oeiras99, who recommended these speakers to you? Each speaker only sounds optimal when used in a free space configuration. Why aren't you looking for speakers that are designed and intended to be placed close to the rear wall? Search the archives....
YG Acoustics or Dynaudio Based upon the replies am I to believe that people think either of the speakers he mentions would work well when place 1 foot from the rear wall?
if one midrange needs a new foam surround, should I say change only one and leave the other alone. The difference in compliance between the woofers could create a phasiness that will sound like a vintage analog flanger effect. With a little substance abuse it will sound way cool.
No reforming of Led Zep apparently Page can still play. So can Jones. Plant has lost range, but he's a far better singer now. Bonham's dead and can't be replaced, but why try to replace him? There are plenty of really good drummers working today. If Led Zep wants to come back and d...
A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine In general terms I agree with the original post. I like the term he uses -- musically credible. There is absolutely no doubt that better materials are available in electronics and loudspeakers and they result in better sound. The question is wheth...
The New Jeff Rowland amplifiers ROCK Around $10,000.
Mapleshade bedrock stands for large monitors Having the woofer closer to the floor changes the floor bounce cancellation effect in the lower midrange/upper bass. Nearly all stand mounted or tall floorstanding speakers suffer from this problem. It thins out this musically important area which...
Trade- off, power SS vs tube magic. Orpheus10, have you considered active crossovers and some sort of multi-amplification?
What makes strings sound "sweet"? Strings shouldn't sound overly aggressive, but they also shouldn't sound too sweet. Depending upon the instrument and the player it can be very appropriate to have a little bite or even rasp to the sound. The choice of microphone and its placement...
Trade- off, power SS vs tube magic. So rather than actually state what speaker/amp you're currently using and asking for a comparison/comment to the BAT amp you instead ask a vague question about solid state vs. tube amps. Then you compound it by getting snippy with those who point ... |
