New Cain & Cain IM Ben Fostex/double horn - help
As someone said earlier, try moving the speakers a little. It's cheap and you can do it immediately. I've read the worst place for a speaker is when it's placed the same distance from the side & backwall. I know you wrote 3 - 3.5 feet on one o...
After Quad ESL's?
For the actual experience you requested, I've owned the B&W Matrix 801, Vandersteen 3a and 2ce, Merlin VSM, then I experienced Planars. For the last 8 yrs, that's all I've owned. Recently I needed a smaller speaker for a smaller room and could...
I bet you already know this one...
How about a digital lightbulb? Perfect light forever. Then there's the guy who's into SEB's, but I feel you need more than 2 or 3 "watts" to fill the room. And what is the ideal room size for the bulb? If your bulb is too bright you can treat it w...
I'm blown away by the Sonic Impact tripath amp.
Gmood, 3.5 wpc on my Fi 2a3 monos. They can use 45's if I change the rectifier tubes but then only 1.5 to 2 wpc. No Led Zeppelin there. They sound real good on my 130 wpc push pull too, so I know what you mean by more power. It makes the speakers ...
I'm blown away by the Sonic Impact tripath amp.
Soundsgood1 and Gmood1, are you two related? Same last name :-). Anyway, I'm with you on the Omega Super 3's. I've had them for 9 months now and thoroughly enjoy them. Still have my planars too, but I think this single driver stuff will be more th...
Best used speaker under $1000 for tube low watter
Omega Super 3's are what I bought for my small room. Great with low watt tube amps. They're $550 new, bookshelf sized, so you'll need to buy stands.
Straight Wire Rhapsody 2 .
It's directional too, so try and find the "faint" arrows which should point with the flow of the signal.
solid state gear- leave on?
When I drive my car, I don't turn it off at every red light and back on when it turns green. But if there's a major traffic delay and I'm just going to sit there awhile, I'll turn it off. Same with my electronics. There was an article in one of th...
What kind sub will connect to Mark Levinson 383?
Most powered subs will have line inputs and speaker level inputs. In addition to the wires you're running to your satelites, run some 12ga wire from the 383's speaker posts to the subs speaker level input. Some people prefer this method even when ...
Single vs Multiple driver loudspeakers...
I have been enjoying the single driver/SET experience for about 6 months now. I still have my Maggies and Apoggees. I'll keep them all. The single driver has a coherence that I have come to appreciate after 7 yrs with planars. As far as having to ...
Shahinian Oblisk
Kgk, Rcprince is right on with the 4 ohm tap. The "OHM" is the resistance your speaker presents to your amp. By selecting the proper tap on the back of the Mcintosh, the amp will run in its most linear state. That's a good thing. If whatever speak...
Discs you play again and again
Cornfed, I hope you've had a chance to listen to Alvin's voice on a good SET/single driver system. Unbelievable.
Mcintosh vs Parasound
Sea2, I've had the JC-1's and several Mac amps in my system. I could live with any of them. It's going to be which one draws you in more. Make the time to listen to both. People use analogies to cars and wine when comparing Amps. The one I use is:...
Why I Like Thiel
I like Theil too. On 2 separate occasions they stepped up to the plate and hit home runs. Any company that takes customer satisfaction to that level deserves the best.
good, small speakers
I have been really impressed with the Omega Super 3. It's a small, 93db, 8 ohm, single driver (no crossover) kind of speaker that has no business sounding this good for $550. Good luck.
