How many audiophiles to screw in a light bulb?
I hired an electrician to rewire my refridgerator so the bulb stays on 24/7. The cycling on off was not good for it, plus, dammit, when I go to the fridge I want the light ready to go. And I swear the food in it looks better now. Anyone who cannot...
How many audiophiles to screw in a light bulb?
Why was GE light bulb downgraded to Class B in Stereophile? This is upsetting to me as I now must sell at a great loss and purchase new Class A bulb to continue to impress friends. What? GE not advertize enough? hhrruuummmpphhh!

Newbee: Bulb turns off with switch in up position, please help.Seasoned Audiophile: SEB, (single ended bulb), is the only way to go.
Why am I experiencing listener's fatigue?
Do you have any light switch dimmers or flourescent lighting in or around your listening room? No one is going to hear 30k or 40khz but it will give you a headache and ringing ears in a short time. At the very least try and get a SPL meter and see...
New speakers and excessive midrange
I think you'll find they get better every day. I've only had a few fostex based spks and their spls measured increasingly higher starting from around 2k up to around 5k. With that emphasis, and your suspension not yet loosened up, you will indeed ...
Super Amp?
I like the Welborne DRD300b. You get to hear more of the tube and less of the circuit.
McIntosh 7270 speaker connections
Hi Redarrow, I have used bare 12ga on older Mac. Twist it tight and run 1/4 to 1/2 inch clockwise around the screw so when you tighten, it works together. Or Radio Shack has some gold pins for 12ga that you can crimp on and the pins will fit easil...
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?
The Omega Super 3 at $550 would top my list, just needs to be paired with the right amp.
McIntosh & Maggies - am I hooked-up the best way?
Mike, get yourself some cheap 12ga wire, Home Depot or Radio Shack, short lengths of course. Hook your Macs up in the different configurations. If it's real noticable one way over another you'll know what direction to go wire wise. Do you already ...
Best SET Monos with ARC SP 6-C preamp
Douglas, I can't comment on the Paramours. Welborne is having a 10% off sale, you should be able to get one of his for less than 1500. Fi also makes an X amp in a 2a3 for around 900 and a 300b for a little more. These amps are great values. If dis...
McIntosh & Maggies - am I hooked-up the best way?
Try one MC150 for both Maggies, lowish volume and compare to the bridged sound. When I tried bridged Mac, it seemed a little more tight as opposed to relaxed. I prefer relaxed. Next try passive bi-amp. You'll like it one way more than another. We'...
Apogee Duetta Sig + Sonic Frontiers Power 2 SE
Piero, I have the Sigs and use a 130 wpc McIntosh MC2000 tube amp from time to time on them. If your amp has a good power supply you should be fine up to a point. When that point will happen depends on how loud you want to play them. If 130 wpc is...
Omega Super 3 or Axiom M22Ti on Sonic Impact T-Amp
Sgi, Here's another vote for the Omega Super3. I've had mine for almost a year. I've been using them with SET's which make for a nice match. Recently I got to listen to Vinnie's Clari-T thats based on your Sonic Impact. I think you will be highly ...
Speaker advice for Mac MC2505
I agree with Hpims. The only thing to remember is the 2505 is 50 wpc out of any of the taps. It doesn't "double down". So don't buy any old Apogees. A speaker I'm enjoying now is the Omega Super 3. It lists for $550 but it's small and he could add...
Best SET Monos with ARC SP 6-C preamp
Hi Douglas. Congrats on the Super 3. I bought a pair a year ago. Can't believe how good they are. I think you've got a good start with what you're already looking at. You didn't mention budget but I would add to your list the Fi mono's, either the...
