Can a vintage piece over 40 years old be Highend
Mine is mostly old stuff too. Refurbished 60s tube amps with good tubes, 60s idler drive turntable and 30 year old cartridge and sweet matched pair of Quad ESLs. Tonearm and phono amp are newer. I haven’t heard a sound as good as it makes at any s...
Kiseki, Supex on a present day tone arm?
I found the Kiseki Milltek (Aurora, green) pretty dark and dreary. Avoid. If you like a touch of musical warmth, the Nagaoka MP500 in a Jelco 750 (or their new ones) will see you good.
Any recent reliable source of Shuguang 845B tubes from China on the Ebay or web sites?
You pays your money. Returns? Warranty?
Shugaung BT 181V
Interesting. I was going to get them but there is another thread on these indicating some issues the tubes develop after a period. If you have a need for 12AX7, they have a BT version which is excellent at Grant Fidelity.

10m speaker cable runs are very long. Try moving the speakers closer together. Put some cushions on floor near speaker ports.

The best tweaks EVER..
Change your basic IEC power cord for a BLE Design OFC one on Ebay for $30. Well made and big improvement on my preamp.
The Jadis JA200Mk2 review---or slam!
Funny you bring this up. Slamming aside, I stopped reading the article in the mag last week when I got to the DAC!
HI-FI NEWBIE NEEDS HELP!
For a start, odd harmonic distortion present in some systems is more discernible while high levels of even order HD are less offensive. As far as losing information, let’s assume a straight wire with gain. Now, electronically, consider the hundred...
HI-FI NEWBIE NEEDS HELP!
Distortion and resolution are intimately related: with distortion you lose resolution. Again, not necessarily. You can have 1% THD and high resolution.
HI-FI NEWBIE NEEDS HELP!
@willemj Interesting points on total distortion comparison. My take is that if the measurable distortions (or not perfectly flat frequency response) do not detract from the general resolution of the system, then it is not a big deal. One can get h...

but when I rearrange the heating of 300B XLS to DC  hum is goneThen the 300s are drawing too much current when cold and resistance is low.

So you claim that your hearing is better than e.g. an Audio Precision Audio Analyzer? Do you have evidence for this? Not necessarily. My claim is that my amplifiers sound differently depending on many factors. E.g. different coupling caps, tubes, f...
