Tonearms: Ripoff? @rsfphil I rarely ever comment on politics and I apologise to others on this thread. Fox is not in the same league as CNN no matter how often trump says it. Fox is an entertainment channel bankrolled by the alt-right to further a nefarious agenda ...
Pro-Ject Carbon DC Mat? Platter? Stylus? Stock are generally not great. I’m not sure how good the BJ ICs are but I can solidly recommend these. Don’t be put off by the price. These are simply excellent and have demolished $250 ICs in my systems. Clear and transparent with no smoothing aw...
Tonearms: Ripoff? @madavid0I wasn't sure what angle you were coming from so I recommended the lower end of the high end, an area I have a lot of experience in. ;-) The thing is this though, if you have experience of upgrades and the improvements wrought from them, ...
New active speakers from AE1 designer Late reply but glad to hear that. How are they working out?
Done buying new vinyl Revisiting this to add that I've bought about 20 new LPs since and quality has improved across the board. Most are not late-50s-70s-analog gems but the vinyl is quiet enough and clarity has improved.
Cartridge recommendations I'd be inclined to replace the turntable with something better before putting that kind of money into a cartridge. I suppose you could move the cartridge in due course. While you may hear some improvement with a better cartridge, you are not heari...
Tonearms: Ripoff? Defend them against what? Think about it. Most of these higher-end tonearms are built in relatively small numbers. Many by solo operators or small operations. Someone is staking their livelihood on making something that takes months of testing, mo...

Best cartridge for Rega Rp3 Better a cheaper cartridge on a better deck that a top cartridge on a lesser deck. I'll never forget a LP12 demo of a K9 on an Ittok vs a Karma on a Basik. The cheap MM trounced it.
Platter mat insanity @slaw Thanks. The actual link is here.Interesting 5 dot support on small mat with a brass? weight.I believe this mechanism, like my own efforts above, to yield cleaner reproduction. It may not suit all recordings but it excels on those that do.
Pro-Ject Carbon DC Mat? Platter? Stylus? Get the acrylic platter and enjoy for a period. Then get the Blue stylus and enjoy it too. Don't spend on 3rd party platter mats yet.
Dear Audiogon, Ha! There was a guy on another forum who complained publicly of porn ads on the site only for it to be pointed out that they were ads fed based on his PC cookies.
Vinyl System Upgrade Path Recommendations @designtaylor A Nagaoka MP110 would be suitable especially as it is kinder with noisy vinyl. On the front end question, yes a new table/arm like a Pioneer PLX1000 with a Nagaoka or Ortofon 2M Blue would be a good place to start.
Vinyl System Upgrade Path Recommendations Start with improving your source. I would dump your front end altogether. If you don’t, noise and clicks and pops will always be an issue.
Kickstarter for all analog "No Filter" Listened to the samples on the page. Good stuff. I hope you go with the tube lathe. Did you use tape for the complete recording this time? Keep us updated. Is The Turn second pressing available? |
