Active or passive preamp
For the record, TVC's have an output impedance below 100 ohms for all but the highest 2 or 3 steps. In fact, the first half is usually under 1 ohm. S&B removed their website that showed this.

Step Up Transformer 100v
Bigger transformers have a lower impedance, thus less likely to create distortion at higher draw. The downside is that bigger transformers will have a higher "idle" current and will cost you to run.At 16 Kg for the 2000W Swallow, that looks more l...
Step Up Transformer 100v
Max power consumption for that Naim is rated as 350W but, being class B, it'll want that faster than you can say ,"Now!", to recharge capacitors.
Balanced Variable Attenuators
Look at Goldpoint or Bent Audio for remote control.
Step Up Transformer 100v
The EHU600 is limited to 600W. Find the maximum draw of what you want to plug into that and double it. 600W is small for an amp. unless it's a flea watt.I think BigShutterBug is referring to these:http://www.geocities.ws/jonrisch/catch2.htmhttp://...
Cd player w/ digital input + volume control $2500
Audiolab 8200CDQ even has analog inputs and digital out. With a new generation of dithered digital volume control, which many have said surpasses it's option of analog volume control. Even balanced (XLR) output. About $1400.
One Monoblock or Two?
For Infinity, don't bother with an active crossover. Sure, the DIY'er in me is curious but, instead, stepped up to Genesis, which already has all that.BTW, there's a Genesis V listed in the Chicago area (local pickup only) for $1200.
BAT, ARC or Ayre for my Genesis 500's?
They say that since the bass amp relieves the main amp of those duties that selecting an amp is easier. I found the opposite with my 350's and needed a strong amp just to keep up to the bass without a "hole" in the midbass. A Plinius SA-100 served...
Bandwidth question?
Bandwidth is directly related to other factors, including feedback.
What component is responsible for dynamics ?
Not surprised that high efficiency speakers are top of the list of suggestions but there's more than one way to skin that cat(love being non-PC). For speakers, you can divide the question into 3 parts; transients, bass slam and SPL (volume). The l...
Passive preamp recommendation to my system
Promitheus Audio is in your price range. Not as sophisticated as the Bent units and no remote control. Did have some trouble a while back with keeping up to orders after losing some employees but that should be better now.
Need advice: Biamping vs. dual bridged monos
Although I have no experience with the CA-100's, the Maggies are not that difficult a load, despite their power appetite and low impedance.Tried to do some research on the CA-100's and found mixed results for bridging. By the specs, they should be...
Transmission Line Bass
Can you spot the problem with transmission lines...?http://www.rwgiangiulio.com/math/pipelength.htmThe advantage is managing the phase from the back wave to reinforce or null at specific frequencies.Traditionally, a transmission line is tapered an...
Balanced vs standard power
Somewhere between a decimal place and half a heart attack.
