PA Speakers for Parties
Lots of little active nearfield monitors in that price range (Behringer, M-audio, KRK) but they aren't for party level SPL's. More realistically, over $2000 (bigger Mackies and JBLPro). Then, you have to convert to XLR.Cheaper to pick up some old ...
Need understanding on amperage
Watts = Volts * AmpsNever heard of an amplifier rated in "amps per channel" before.
Do your speakers have enough "freshness"
Maybe you can spray Febreze on them.
240 VAC 60Hz amp running at 230 VAC 50Hz - safe?
If it's built for 50 Hz, great. Going the other way can be more difficult.Let me guess, there's a switch for 120/240V. May be reading between the lines of the manufacturer's response here, but the 240 VAC/60Hz input sounds "legal-eze" for the US e...
240 VAC 60Hz amp running at 230 VAC 50Hz - safe?
Depends on the transformer. 50 Hz is tougher to deal with and often requires derating the transformer if it's not rated for 50/60 Hz. If the transformer is oversized to begin with, that's not much of a problem. However, the problem is compounded b...
asymmetric apodizing filter
We can talk about various advantages and disadvantages but it all comes down to your own ears. Some won't like different filters because it's just not what they've become conditioned to. Thirty years of "brickwalls" sets a de facto standard of sor...
Are Dusson amplifiers still available in the US?
Grant Fidelity might be of interest for Chinese products.
How far can room treatments solve boomy bass?
Depends on how you address the problem. If you take measurements and do your homework, you'll be surprised. If you just start buying soft stuff, it's guesswork.
Bass amp for a tri-amped system?
For bass only and amps only, it just comes down to brute force. It's cheaper and easier to get that from switching amps. Look at Wyred4Sound and Spectron or pro amps, if XLR is available.
Frequency Response?
62bakes: You can use just the high pass section of an active crossover, like a Marchand. Doing something similar with a NHT X2, which has a relatively simple choice of 3 fixed 12 dB/octave filters. Except for the Pass XVR-1, most active xovers use...
Frequency Response?
Yes, they will go deeper. Sometimes I think the advertised frequency response of some speakers is just creative license. Saw an advertised rating of 40 Hz - 3dB for a sealed monitor with a 6.5" woofer. Don't think so. 60 or 70 maybe, but that does...
size of the driver
All you have to do is go to Parts Express or Madisound websites and look up the specs on various drivers of different sizes and types, including "pro". Some have detailed frequency response and impedance graphs. You can go further by plugging some...
A reasonably priced CD player with volume control
Audiolab 8200 CDQ.
size of the driver
Bigger isn't always better. I keep telling myself that. For example, there are 12" drivers that sacrifice bass extension for efficiency and midrange performance and there are 6.5" drivers that do the opposite. A lot of the difference since the 70'...
Trying to build dipole sub - a la Celestion 6000
Maybe I was a bit harsh with that oxymoron statement. The point was that deep bass (20 Hz) may be impractical with dipoles and that moderate bass (40 Hz) is possible but requires double the drivers as a conventional monopole. The other concern wit...
