cable suggestions for new system
I would suggest that you view your cable and interconnects as tweeks, using them to get the change the components sound to fit your own needs. I don't know what kind of Monster you bought but it ain't so bad that you have to appoligize for it. I f...
Sibelius Sym/Sakari/IcelandSO/Recommendation
Tweekerman, If you haven't already done so you should try Bergland and the COE as well as Vanska. I wasn't as fond of the Bergland/Helsinki as you so I had to be dragged to listen to the COE versions. These and Vanska are my current favorite conte...
Electrostatic Speakers/SS amp - what tube preamp?
Marakanetz, Why to you feel a 500 ohm out put pre would present a load problem for a 50K ohm input? This is a 100 to 1 ratio. As i recall the minimum is 10 to 1. I would expect that the best thing a user could do would be to ask the manufacturer o...
Glazunov violin concerto -- Suggestions?
You can't go wrong w/Heifetz & Hendl on RCA - on CD you could also get an outstanding Sibelius VC as well depending on which CD you get, there are multiple releases w/different partnering pieces. If you want something new, and you want to expl...
What cartridge works for you ???
I recommend a Benz Glider MC also - However, what ever cartridge you decide to use DO NOT overlook inquiry into the issue of whether or not it matches your arm. You will need to talk to someone with expert knowledge of the details of your arm, the...
What is virgin vinyl? Is it better
Matt, this is a can of worm's not often discussed but is recognized by serious vinylphiles. There are turntables where the VTA can be changed on the fly to accomodate the angle of the cutter head on the lathe that cut the disc in the first place (...
What is virgin vinyl? Is it better
Matt, Audiophile pressings are often 180 gram but most typical used records are not. Whether or not the 180 gram record will sound better on your rig depends on how you set the VTA on your arm/cartridge. If most of your collection is on typical vi...
What Preamp for ML Sequals & ESL amp?
Keerwilson, i note that your Innersound amp has an imput impedence of 50K ohms - if this is correct you should not have a mismatch with a tube preamp of most any make. In addition to the CJ preamp you looked at you might also want to look at some ...
What Preamp for ML Sequals & ESL amp?
Tube preamps are a great idea, but they all sound different tonally speaking. Same with CDP's, in fact. If i had to choose only one tube component it would be the pre amp. What what flavor sound do you expect from your pre-amp and CDP? Warm, cold,...
Best sounding LP's
If sound quality is paramount for you, in classical LP's I have generally found Phillips to have excellent quality and some good recording artists as well. DG is touch and go. EMI, London, Decca also have excellent recording practices and the surf...
Too much voltage in a preamp??
A guess. If the Lamm has a highly sensitive input, say on the order of .5 to 1 volt, the ARC probably has a high enuf output to render the volume control near useless - that is, it is way too loud when the volume control isn't even advanced to 8 o...
advice on brightness
I agree with paulwp except for one issue, that is toe in. One of the ways of reducing side wall reflections is by EXTREME toe in. Try pointing the axis of the speakers inward well past the the listening position, say 45 degrees from straight ahead...
Which NOS to use on Audio Research pre amp?
I have an SP10II - i use 6h23's in the line stage and Seimans in the Phono Stage. When i get a chance i'm going to try some EI elite 6dj8's in the line stage - i've used them as drivers in an amp and like them a lot in that application.
How important is impedence matching?
Mismatching impedence can cause roll off of the frequency extremes and loss of some detail, but it will not cause electric problems nor the death of tubes in your preamp. TWL is correct - your impedence match is fine (think in terms of a 10 to 1 r...
System Plateau--Help Me Take The Next Step
Think tube amp, tube amp, tube amp........at least try one for on size (assuming you haven't already done so).
