Phono preamp question Do you know what the phono section gain is? Check that spec with the Rhea and you will have an answer to the gain question. But if you are happy with the sound level you can obtain with your present gain stage why add a additional devise & IC'...
Upgrading the Source. Warren, Please describe for me if you can, technically, why your Caravelle's do not require a sub woofer - what is their -3db point, 32hz, 40hz, 60hz? I'm sure you must have the manufacturer's spec's. How can one get that much bass from a small spe...
price points vs. room treatment Piezo, I didn't mean my post to sound like a put down, just a call for someone to really start thinking about what they were trying to do. Some things are possible (with help from experienced folks) and others are not. I know of folks who chase a ...
SS preamp to give wormth & bloom to Krell KSA amp When you find it let me know. If there was a SS pre amp with warmth and bloom 3/4ths of the tube owners would buy it. :-)
price points vs. room treatment Mizrachi, It all depends on what you expect to achieve with your system. As a pratical matter, if you do not/cannot set your speakers up to their best advantage and compensate for you room's acoustics I wouldn't spend much money on my equipment or...
Sistrum or Neuance or...? Scotty, I'm unfamiliar with your system. Can you tell me exactly what changes this product made in your system if any? What were you using before you put this in the system that you compared the Systrum stand to? Did it work as well? Thanks.........
Biasing for new tube Don't know about VTL but most tube amps provide for individual biasing of tubes and you should set the bias for the new tube at the same setting as the other tubes in the set.
Tube Suggestions 6922 4 pathos Classic one I don't have a Pathos but as a general suggestion - for new production tubes try the JJ's, they certainly have some warmth not easily found in new production tubes, but they aren't quite as quiet as Sovteks & 6h23's. I use them in one of my am...
What's your favorite lyric from a song? I'm sort of an Irish nationalist, in spirit at least, and have always been touched by the lyrics of Danny Boy, a true song of protest. And as sung by Eva Cassidy it can bring tears to my eyes!
time to discuss kt-88's I have used Svetlana and Sovtek KT88's but haven't tried the others yet. I found the Svetlana very clean and clear in the upper mids and highs (very impressively so) but a little thin in the bass and lower mid range. This was in a SF amp. I tried ...
Is there a worthy 6922 presently made? Kevziek, No one has mentioned the EI 6dj8's (perhaps because its not a good 6922 substitute). Aside from some quality control problems this is a nice new production tube. Count me in as a supporter of the JJ tubes, although I like the older Tesla ...
Is there a worthy 6922 presently made? Maxgain, Now tell us what you really think! :-) Personally, I enjoy the NOS circus - especially this type: "I JUST bought a NEW XXX preamp and I want to roll tubes - what NOS tubes do you recommend". He hasn't let his pre-amp break in, doesn't kno...
I need help on this one Lets see if I can point you in the right direction, even though I don't have any experience with AES. The AES is a tube pre-amp, the ssshhh sound is only thru the phono section, and you probably have an MC cartridge with lowish output. Assuming th...
Question about Gain, amp power and volume Mkaes, If you want to get a new amp, get one! BUT revisit the issues I raised regarding input sensitivity. Its not about the amount of power - I have three amps in my house I currently use, all are tubes (not that it makes a big difference) a 120 ...
cones under your tube amps?? Personally, I prefer to isolate my tube preamps from inco ing vibrations as opposed to coupling them to the floor with cones/points, which I do not believe, despite propaganda to the contrary, isolate anything by themselves. FWIW my amps are SF SF... |
