Current Trends in multi thousand dollar speakers
Sean, There is an up side to this, these speakers with thier bass boost aught to sound really good with low level volume - no tone controls or equalizers needed here. :-) On a more serious note, perhaps in a really large room (and I assume some on...
Every new substance is a candidate isolation tool
Never thought of that - perhaps making a sandwich of one piece of a dense rubber foam with the styrofoam on one side and balsa wood on the other, hummmm..what kind of glue do you think I should use. Oh well, I file it to do "tommorow".
Favorite Music When Having Sex
Buscis2, Actually I'm married and happy - almost an oxymoron - but I just like to play to the stereotype like poor Raymond (Everybody Likes Raymond) - oh hell, I forgot, single guys don't watch TV so you might not identify with him! :-)
Favorite Music When Having Sex
Buscis2, Are you single? Married men don't have sex, everybody knows that! I suppose I could listen to some coyboy sing "I'm back in the saddle again". :-)
Damping Maple Amp Stands?
Re your CDP,I assume you are talking about putting cones under the box that contains the sand - Might look pretty, but I can't see what good it would do. The sand is your isolation materiel. Cones would allow vibrations in the box to dissapate to ...
Need help with room problems
One of the downsides to highly resolving cone speaker systems is that they will give you a very narrow sweet spot. It is normal for the center of your soundstage to shift to the left (for example) if your move your head to the left. Speakers that ...
How to remove outlet noise
How does the noise manifest itself, i.e. from the outlets, from your amp, or from your speakers? Does it change when you increase the volume on your preamp or is the level always the same?
Getting into Opera... need advice
La Bohemme by Puccini! The most popular opera ever!!!!! Is a must for newcomers to opera. Beautiful music, great duets, great love theme, tragic death at end - its got it all. Was the background music in Moonstruck. I agree with the above recommen...
question re: poor bass response
I suspect that your speakers are too small to properly provide low bass in a room as large as yours, let alone full sounding bass at low volume. Even with full range floor standers you would need some means of elevating the bass level due to the F...
Vinyl, should I take the plunge?
I love vinyl and CD's for their musical values. If I had to make your decision today it would be based on what music was available (in volume) to warrant the format. There are tons of records about, but frankly there are few that I want to hear an...
What's under your bookshelf speakers?
If you don't want to damage the finish of the speakers or your desk, be careful about sorbothane - it can damage speaker and furniture finishs unless you put something between the sorbothane materiel and the finish. If you can stand the appearance...
Large Speakers Small Rooms
Big speakers in small roooms seems counter intuitive to me. You have to pull the speakers out into the room to avoid extra heavy bass and, with normal trianuglation for good imaging, you'd be sitting very close to the speakers. Generally speaking ...
question re: poor bass response
Low bass level when your are playing music at low levels is a function of the ear/brain interconnect. The bass needs to be elevated at low levels to match the "apparent" output of the mids and highs. (The phenom is referred to as the Fletcher Muns...
critical listening - i hear something i don't like
In defense of Ohala, you can't comment intelligently on this type of question with out details. For instance, room dimensions, speaker placement, speaker type, amp type, decible level when sound starts to distort, etc. Here is a WAG, you are overd...
Best distance from your beloved speakers?
You don't mention room size - so I'm just guessing - I'd sit about 8.5 ft (from speaker to ear). Thats the ratio I used for my Quads, but it really depends alot on the acoustics of your room.
