What Neutral Means in Reviews & Our Discussions? Are We Confusing Tame/Flat For Neutral?
Clearly from ghdprentice's post what we need is a new FAQ page titled ’audiophile euphemisms’. Then we could all be on the same page with audio reviewers and others who would seek to describe the sonics of their system. Now if we could just find a...
What Neutral Means in Reviews & Our Discussions? Are We Confusing Tame/Flat For Neutral?
immatthewj Well your illustration of using neutral as a noun with an modifier is certainly correct . My characterizing it otherwise was mistaken. But I do believe that when used as an adjective it becomes more acceptable to expect it be used in a...
What's It All About?
I designed my kitchen 30 years ago - its still intact, only the appliances have changed. I designed my house and listening room therein 30 years ago -  only my audio components have changed - I'd like to say that they just wore out like my dish wa...
What Neutral Means in Reviews & Our Discussions? Are We Confusing Tame/Flat For Neutral?
immatthew, "But if neutral is absolute" What would you suggest in 'audio' is neutral and to what? Re 'almost neutral' would that be the same as being an 'almost whore'? Easy to say, tough to define. :-)
Time/Process of Hooking up New Equipment
If it is possible, I will try to slip the new component into my system and, the hard part, do not really listen to it for as long as possible. It needs time to break in. With an amp it is simple to do and the results in changes needed upstream (in...
What Neutral Means in Reviews & Our Discussions? Are We Confusing Tame/Flat For Neutral?
You seem to understand, yet you do not accept, that there is no consensus of the meaning, in audio at least, of ’neutral’. This post will not, I suspect, shed any great light on the subject. Neutral is a word which is absolute. It can only be ’ne...
Need 25 foot interconnects
Using an XLR connection would be of no particular benefit unless both the pre-amp and amp were balanced. Just use I/Cs with regular RCA connectors.
Record collecting versus hoarding
I gave away all of my LP’s some time ago - when I couldn’t read the spines w/out a magnifying glass. LMAO! No longer have to worry about my floor collapsing either! Ah, peace of mind (I don’t have to worry about my analog system and its maintenanc...
Parity
RV, I erred! Its Get Happy. Sorry 'bout that.
Parity
Great - Be Happy! BTW Jenny Lin has a CD out on the Steinway label called "Be Happy" which is easy to recommend for some relaxed listening - check it out. She's a pretty fair pianist I think.
EAR 834 line stage
I must have had a lemon! Bought it based on Harry Pearson's recommendation - said it reminded him of my ARC SP10. 1) It sounded nothing like my SP10. 2) It was 'bright'. 3)I couldn't get clarity from the manufacturer or distributer re proper tube ...
Apples and oranges
Onhwy61, I agree! A listener's degree of knowledge and sophistication are what makes a discussion interesting and an open mind can make them productive. The problem inherent with this hobby is that the interest level amongst audiophiles is so dive...
Apples and oranges
In a perfect world we would be talking about the same thing, music! Yet we persist in talking about audio. I guess that is what internet audiophiles do. Most of my close friends love music and could care less about 'audio' let alone talking about ...
The MoFi Mess and TAS rolling over for them
bdp, Good timing! :-)
are we also coffee connoisseurs? Or wine enthusiasts?
I drink coffee by the 'gallons' so I can't be bothered with Expresso but I do roast my own beans. Sort of like getting the right tone from my audio system I find it quite important to do the roasting myself.  Love California Cabs (10+ years old) ...
