Can a system sound too Holographic?
Speakers wired out of phase can be described as 'too holographic' (as heard by novice audiophiles). Out of phase speakers can/will loose a well defined center image.
Seeking Schumann 4th that is listenable
Mahler 123, BTW in reading about Dausgaard's Schumann I found a new(er)set  by Ticciati. Have you heard this? Sounds interesting.
Seeking Schumann 4th that is listenable
Mahler123 +1! But, unfortunately, I think, too often the same conductors who use small forces as Berglund with Sibelius and Harnoncourt with Beethoven do with the COE, also do it with period instruments, etc, Gardiner, something I'm no too attrac...
KEF owners, how are your speakers positioned?
Your dimensions sound fine for most speakers at least for the starting point of set up. To oversimplify the effects of toe in, the two extremes of toe in are having the axis pointing at your head - you should get a very focused sound stage mostly ...
KEF owners, how are your speakers positioned?
How far to the side walls? Generally speaking, toe in/side wall reflections are not independent of each other regardless of speaker design except for panels and electrostats. The further from the side walls the less toe in......but its all room de...
Need advice
Just plug it in. Give it at least 24 hours of play time before you reach any conclusions as to 'sound'.
Best Forum to hear experienced audiophiles exchange thoughts?
Mapman +1. An open mind and some good old fashioned critical analysis can result in something meaningful here. But it's work! I've always been fond of the thought for a questioner, with all the answers that a post might get, if you don't already k...
Happy Accident
The last time I repositioned my speakers I had a really big surprise, one that was counterintuitive. Previously I had my speakers about six feet from the wall behind them, about 9 ft apart and 10 1/2 feet from my 'ears'.  Toed in about 10 degrees....
Have a reflective Memorial day.
Nice thought. FWIW I think we, as a nation, have come a long way in remembering the value of our veterans from the times when the Korean War vets were basically ignored, to the Vietnam vets who were disparaged our of hand, to the relatively kind t...
Has Your Hobby Changed?
Retirement can open doors for a lot of folks. You finally have the time, if you have the inclination, to analyze your systems sound. Not necessarily a good thing though if you seriously love your music. The trick, I think, is to be able to balance...
Your audiophile chair
+4 Ekorness  :-) I bought a pair, one for TV room and one for music room. Great low back and shoulder support. Worth the bucks.
What sonic qualities connects to you deeply and emotionally?
The passion imbued by the artist I think goes a long way in bringing tears to my eyes. By way of example, Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland. Pretty tune, pretty voice, Ho Hum! Now that same song sung by Eva Cassidy. The power and the passion  she b...
Classical Aficionados: Please Suggest Debussy Solo Piano recordings
Last post, I swear! :-) Lots of folks don't care that much for Bach, including me, but a lot of folks are anchored to him so maybe he has something that might appeal to you. When you get a chance pull up and listen to the Goldberg Variations, and...
Sat front row at the symphony...
I've been enjoying all of this discourse about concert hall seating. No so much different from user preferences in home audio I think. Some folks want infinite  detail (they call it transparency I think) and folks who go to concerts like the big b...
Classical Aficionados: Please Suggest Debussy Solo Piano recordings
stuartk, A suggestion for you in your search. Rather than trying to find a composer which might prove difficult as their body of music can be vast and very different piece to piece, if you pick a sour one it might be least representative of his ot...
