Need Advice on Amplifiers
FWIW your reference to speakers opening up at moderate loud volume is a very common complaint, one that I’ve also experienced using both high quality electrostatics and some box speakers. In my quest I never found that higher power amps helped, bu...
Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
ON equalizers incorporated into equipment as well as outboard have three things that affect the sounds that they alter. Frequency center, for example - the bass control may be centered anywhere from 30hz to 120hz (or more). This range also has slo...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
Folks want to confuse absolute phase which can be inverted either by a switch on the pre-amp, source, etc. The result of a change of absolute phase is typically minor and in order for it to be heard the source (disc usually) must have been recorde...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
Doesn't make any sense to me either. That is why I suggested that you physically reverse the leads on one speaker. Sometimes strange things happen with electronics that aren't predictable. For example I've actually seen the connectors on a speaker...
Speakers Recommendation for a BAT VK-55 SE
Unless you don't like those speakers (and you said you did) I would be looking for an amp which will drive them to your tastes. That is the more common, and I believe most successful, manner in setting up new speakers. Probably a lot cheaper too. ...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
That usually occurs when you have the speakers wired out of phase. I know you said they were in phase but just for kicks, humor me, reverse the leads of one speaker and see what happens. :-)
Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
I'm all in for a Loki TC placed in a tape loop. I use one and the change it makes when needed far surpasses any potential down side. Used between the amp and preamp, I'm not so sure. If you don't have a tape loop, I'd seriously consider placing it...
First Tube amp suggestions
Are you looking for a basic amp or an integrated. I assume the latter?
Thoughts On Turntable Clamps And Weights
FWIW, weights and clamps should be used to solve extant problems. I don't believe that their arbitrary use has any real promise of improvement in TT performance. If I were to use one I would use the lightest one possible to solve the problem, i.e....
Tubes trouble?
I doubt that this is a tube problem. My first guess would be that it is somewhere in the grounding or wires (IC's). Check to make sure all of your IC's are not near any transformers, etc and all connections are solid, especially grounds from your ...
Dust Removal
I'd use a soft brush in conjunction with a vacuum cleaner (small hand held one probably best). Sweep with brush, suck up dispersed dust with vacuum at same time.
This e-mail has been cryogenically treated
Funny thing about Cyro (and other tweaks and mod's) is while the molecular structure may have changed, with audio stuff what are the odds that it will make and audible difference. But, interesting enuf, it seems from user comments it always does, ...

Dammed if I know. Probably the same way we verify that fuses make a difference and that they are correctly oriented. We listen and hear, or think we hear, the difference. Is there a god? OK, prove that!
Can you have too much speaker presence?
FWIW when I have seen the word 'presence' it has been referring to the mid/upper mid range. I agree with Soix. But I would opine that your dealer was telling you these speakers would just be too small in your large (enuf) room, something you could...
What to change a systemic question
Scott, Have you fiddled with the crossover controls? Both phase and crossover points? If not, I’d try that before I reached any conclusions. From looking at the manual I’d be interested in having a higher crossover point so more high frequencies p...
