If you want lame advice DON'T do this!
Kota1, 'wrong' if it is an expectation. Not wrong if it is just a rant. It would be nice if all who ask and who advise were knowledgeable but that's not going to happen anytime soon. And the bigger question is, perhaps, who is going to train these...
Listening skills increase with low light?
Simple answer, eliminate anything that distracts you if you want to fully absorb the music you are listening to. If while listening you are aware of your rooms ambience (as opposed to acoustics) you're too easily distracted I think. If you can't c...
Does it make sense to "ignore low ball offers"?
Problem is many sellers inflate their price somewhat expecting that they will receive low offers and their prices will give them room to negotiate a fair price, so what exactly is a low ball offer. Earlier in this post a few mentioned 30%, certain...
If you want lame advice DON'T do this!
FWIW kota 1, I think most folks who go to the trouble of posting their systems are far less concerned with getting advice about their rooms/set/equipment as they are about establishing themselves as audiophiles and giving other viewers some unders...
Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
Well I don’t know what kind of an equalizer you’re looking for but, FWIW, Schiit has a 6 band equalizer that has both XLR and RCA and 2 channels as well. Pretty ’good’ and relatively inexpensive ($300 +/-). I use one.
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
OP, FWIW, I misread and attributed to you statements about soundstage aberrations experienced early in this thread. Obviously I thought you were experimenting with the equipment and getting the odd results. My bad. I should have read the post more...
Need Advice on Amplifiers
FWIW your reference to speakers opening up at moderate loud volume is a very common complaint, one that I’ve also experienced using both high quality electrostatics and some box speakers. In my quest I never found that higher power amps helped, bu...
Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
ON equalizers incorporated into equipment as well as outboard have three things that affect the sounds that they alter. Frequency center, for example - the bass control may be centered anywhere from 30hz to 120hz (or more). This range also has slo...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
Folks want to confuse absolute phase which can be inverted either by a switch on the pre-amp, source, etc. The result of a change of absolute phase is typically minor and in order for it to be heard the source (disc usually) must have been recorde...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
Doesn't make any sense to me either. That is why I suggested that you physically reverse the leads on one speaker. Sometimes strange things happen with electronics that aren't predictable. For example I've actually seen the connectors on a speaker...
Speakers Recommendation for a BAT VK-55 SE
Unless you don't like those speakers (and you said you did) I would be looking for an amp which will drive them to your tastes. That is the more common, and I believe most successful, manner in setting up new speakers. Probably a lot cheaper too. ...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers
That usually occurs when you have the speakers wired out of phase. I know you said they were in phase but just for kicks, humor me, reverse the leads of one speaker and see what happens. :-)
Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
I'm all in for a Loki TC placed in a tape loop. I use one and the change it makes when needed far surpasses any potential down side. Used between the amp and preamp, I'm not so sure. If you don't have a tape loop, I'd seriously consider placing it...
First Tube amp suggestions
Are you looking for a basic amp or an integrated. I assume the latter?
Thoughts On Turntable Clamps And Weights
FWIW, weights and clamps should be used to solve extant problems. I don't believe that their arbitrary use has any real promise of improvement in TT performance. If I were to use one I would use the lightest one possible to solve the problem, i.e....
