KT-77 vs. KT-66
Jond, FWIW, it's probably the the plate difference between the two amps which determine which tubes you can use. I don't know, but I'd risk a bet that the amp which can use EL34's has a plate voltage of 450 volts. The 500 volt unit would probably ...
How serious are you?
Maybe 3. I lost interest with near SOTA systems over 10 years ago. Now my interest is limited to getting the sound that I want to hear. New acquisitions are rare but I did get a new preamp recently because it offered both analog as well as digital...
I used to think pricey interconnects were snake oil...
"How are cables that we don't like explained without a double blind test". Just possibly, some folks have better critical listening skills than others. And with sonic differences for wires, which are often subtle, and reveal themselves over long(...
How Much Do Aesthetics Factor Into Your Decisions?
I won't buy 'pretty' if it doesn't sound good. I won't by 'ugly' if it sounds great. A credo that applies to most things in my life. Looks great/sounds good, sounds great/looks good works quite well though.
RCA splitter
Thing I've noticed when trying splitters is it seems to not only split the signal but also split the strength of the output, something I've noticed on many pre-amps which have two outputs. FWIW
is sensorineural hearing loss permanent?
Reminds me of a Werner Herzog directed movie where in a boy never exposed to humans before arriving at a University were he was taken under the care of a professor who taught him language and introduced him to society. After some time when in a ha...
What is turntable “liveliness”.
FWIW, to appreciate most of the nuances of a TT system one must develop some serious listening skills, especially if you are dealing with high quality TT's and arms. Cartridges and phono stages are quite a bit easier to differentiate. IME audiophi...
Who has the Sickness, the Phile or the Non-phile?
The love of music comes first. Then comes audio. One must be careful, especially if by nature they are anal or compulsive, otherwise ’audio’ takes over and music just becomes a means to explore audio. They no longer really listen to the music, the...
New finds In Record Collection
I can't relate so much with collecting music and not listening to it, but as I enjoy experiencing new music or recordings I have built up a rather large collection, a lot of which were rather mediocre recordings which I remembered for that reason ...
Hum in speakers
I think I didn’t ask a clear question, so I’ll be a bit more specific by illustrating an experience I had. I had a wall wart (12v transformer) plugged into an extension cord lying on the floor behind my components. I had a cable from my pre-amp to...
Hum in speakers
You haven't routed your RCA from TT to phono stage near a transformer or other power source have you? That will create hum everytime (almost anyway).
Any High End Tube Preamps with *gasp tone controls?
If you can afford it, sure. That remote control will come in handy in finding the tone you are looking for when adjusting for sources like records and CD's. For some room or system correction, no so much. You won't be fiddling with it that much or...
Any Advice for those Listening to Youtube Reviewers?
I have watched few utubers. I found it somewhat unproductive relative to the time dedicated to it. But I can understand why it's attractive to some and for them I would suggest that they not abandon 'critical analysis' when watching. I think that ...
If you want lame advice DON'T do this!
FWIW, re headphones, mahgister is correct in the sense that good headphone utilization is not a walk in the park. If ones reference is headphones just plugged into a component’s afterthought socket they don’t know a good headphones systems potenti...
If you want lame advice DON'T do this!
Kota1, 'wrong' if it is an expectation. Not wrong if it is just a rant. It would be nice if all who ask and who advise were knowledgeable but that's not going to happen anytime soon. And the bigger question is, perhaps, who is going to train these...
