Can a MC cartridge be used with a MM preamp?
I used the Dynavector 10x4 High Output version with a MM phono stage and it sounded terrific. It may be true that a low output MC with a MC stage might be better, but that is another investment. I think you'll be very pleased with the DV 20XH and ...
Laserdisc problem encountered----Help?
No problema . . .
Laserdisc problem encountered----Help?
I recall having this same problem and, I think, realizing that some LD's did not have digital sound, I needed analog connections. Are you using only a digital cable? Try a pair of cables on the analog outputs.
Is the Dynavector DV 10x5 as good as they Say?
I had the 10x4 (before upgrading to the XX-2), and, yes, it is as good as they (and I) say.I can't imagine a better cartridge at the price, or even a lot higher. Clarity, dynamics, and tracking are incredible. You won't be disappointed!
What's good used 5.1pre/pro for $1500 or less
I have the Anthem AVM-2, and it is a terrific piece at the price, but, if you don't need a tuner, which the Anthem has, I would go for a Proceed AVP, with S-type outputs. I believe it is a superior unit, the DAC's for the 2-channel are the same as...
Does your favorite band suck? Scientific proof
I still have the first VU LP (one of my all-time favorites), purchased new in '67, but you obviously never saw the Stones on their '69 or '72 tours. '68-'72 were they're best years, IMO, with "Beggars Banquet," "Let It Bleed," "Sticky Fingers," an...

Lots of good choices! Don't forget "Layla!"

Morse Science High. They're still performing and making records. In fact, they won a Grammy a few years ago for Best Spoken Word. There's a video of a performance in Colorado a few years ago that turns up on PBS now and then. And I've heard them on ...
Do home theater test discs exist?
This is probably the best of them:http://www.videoessentials.com/ve_d_order.htmthough the Avia is good, and the Sound & Vision is not bad, either.
There's no accounting for taste....

Great country music recording
Townes Van Zandt. Steve Earle, another favorite of mine, said of him, "He's the best damn songwriter around, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my boots and say it!" (That's a pretty good paraphrase from memory.)I go along with Lucinda ...
Question about Audiologic 2400 DAC
I keep mine on. I spoke to Jerry Ozment (the designer and maker), and he agreed. The tubes are low power and should last a long time.
Vinyl, should I take the plunge?
Definitely go vinyl.I have pretty decent playback for CD, SACD, and vinyl.Though listening to CD and SACD is satisfying, it doesn't hold a candle to vinyl.CD is definitely more convenient, but doesn't offer the wonderfully natural sound of vinyl.Y...
digital cable
Good question! And what is the difference between a digital cable and an "analog" one? What does the 75 ohm and 110 ohm resistance apply to -- the cable, or the source connection? I've tried half-pair of analog that sound better than some premium ...
