Rega P9 Feet on a P3-24
At the California Audio Show, a San Francisco store(on Pine Street?) demonstrated the newest 2 Rega turntables(not the P-6). They said that the feet they were using(around $300 for 3, I believe)made the cheapest Rega sound close to the next one up...
Table/Cart Set Up - By Ear or Test Record?
Setting by ear means you change(incrementally)settings until you hear what that(VTA, anti-skating, VTF, etc.) parameter does. It is at that point that you understand what you are doing. It is important that you don't use objective things(like chan...
Upgrade From Systemdek IVe
I believe that Audio Note of England bought Systemdek. They have a very interesting turntable, the TT-2, which has 2 motors, that sounded very good at the recent California Audio Show. That might be worth looking into. Also, Fremer mentioned that ...
Why does your turntable sound the way it does.
This might not be the exactly correct place to bring this up, or maybe it is. It has been stated that the Linn method of evaluating audio equipment simplifies things too much, but I disagree. It may not be the only way, but I believe if the intent...
Last 3rd of LP has High Feq. Distortion
The classic answer to "last 3rd of Lp has High Feq. Distortion" is the anti-skate is not adjusted correctly.
LP12 owners: Anyone try the Tiger-Paw Khan yet?
I think Pasinee on utube has this on at least one of his Linns, if you want to hear it. You can look up linn radikal to get to Pasinee.
How to check original vs. reissue?
I believe the serial number stamped near the label, or the number on the label, can give you some information. Thicker vinyl(assuming it's not an audiophile recording)is another indication of the original. An example would be "Elephant Mountain", ...
Plinth mass vs. Foundation mass
Isn't there a correlation between high mass and acoustic breakthrough, or resonance, at the low frequencies. Wouldn't that tend to thicken the sound?
Turntable speed accuracy
Alberporter: Intuitively, I would think that what a dd turntable sits on would have a big effect on its sound. Maybe you've addressed this with plinths, but I would still think what that sits on should be discussed much more than it is, and wonder...
Changing from Vinyl to Digital in Brave New World
I haven't compared the two directly, but why not digitalize your vinyl? It might maintain the relaxation that vinyl gives you.
how to tell on first pressing vinyl releases
As I remember it, the number stamped between the end of the last song and the label can indicate is if it's a re-issue, if it has a - and then a number. BTW, there is some correlation between thickness and quality of recording, based on some origi...
Best Record You Have Ever heard
I'm going to hi-jack this thread for just a moment, as this record loses out on the sound quality, but for the musical ideas, and the number of people who haven't heard it, Quicksilver Messenger Service, "Happy Trails". Note: this is a mostly elec...
Sirius and Walker
Unoear, I'm afraid my experience is limited to some of the older Denon's, the Nakamichi centering turntable, the $400 Technics that you can still buy new, and some needle-drops of the Technics sp10 mk11. I cannot afford $12.5k. Since I'm speaking ...
Sirius and Walker
Should I speak my mind, and get my butt handed to me? I find direct-drives(I've only heard cheaper ones.)to have a relentless quality to them. Does anyone else hear this? Do the more expensive, or well-sorted ones, eliminate this quality?
