Best bargain you've ever missed out
I passed up an brand new original AR turntable at Peachtree Salvage for $25(in the box). At the time, I didn't want to spend $25, but realizing what a bargain it was, I went back a few hours later, and it was gone. I now look at things like this d...
Top ten DD turntables of all time?
The question of how belt-drives sounded compared to direct-drives back in the day was asked. There was a discontinuity to the sound of the direct-drives, while the belt-drives ebbed and flowed like real music. The music on direct-drives seemed cut...
vintage turntables?
Schipo, I heard the Nakamichi tt at Garland's in San Jose. As I remember it, it did make a difference(at a very high cost), but it still sounded like the direct-drive turntables of that era(not too good). BTW, people should be aware that many of t...
Words From the Wise
Analog is easier to get music from(and the software is cheaper-used records). Audio societies are good to join(You don't have to buy what you hear.). Comparitive auditions have helped me. If you can find an audio manufacturer/modifier to guide you...
TW-Acustic Arm
I ran out of time, so I haven't read all the posts. While it's interesting to read about some ego stuff and discloser issues, since we have some very expert people posting on this discussion, I was wondering if maybe the experts could give us a li...
15,000 LP's - What to do with records?
I may be wrong, but if you are located in the SF Bay Area, I can tell you that I talked to aomeone working the RecordMan's Parking lot sale. He said that he sold his collection, by the ton, to Rasputin's. He got something like $1200 for them(i.e.,...
Anti-Skate::Playing LP's vs. 12
Hifitime, that was pretty ingenious using those o-rings. They do add weight, so the markings might not be as accurate. I think if you keep the interconnects, speaker wire, etc. straight, you can figure out which channel comes out of which speaker....
Driving myself crazy with TT purchase...
I should mention that I think the bottom of the springs have a washer that has a peak, and that peak is used to align the springs(the board in its cutout), I believe. It is best to read up on this, if you are interested.
Driving myself crazy with TT purchase...
My first "real" turntable was an Ariston 11e. Back then, I was reading about turntables in "Hi-Fi Answers". I used a Grace 707(mk11?) with an ADC XLM 3 cartridge. I got the best sound I've ever heard from a turntable with this setup. Unfortunately...
Anti-Skate::Playing LP's vs. 12
I should also mention a problem that has been expressed before about the hanging weight anti-skate method. The notches aren't refined enough to fine tune anti-skate, and it is hard to make new notches. I don't know if anyone has provided a proper ...
Anti-Skate::Playing LP's vs. 12
Hifitime, I just read your great first link, and wrote them a letter, which may help some people(I don't know how to indent, etc.). "I may have inadvertantly come to the same conclusion about dynamics, while using a different method to anti-skate....

Jcarr, thank you very much for giving us some insight into cartridges. Most of the time we get opinions and misinformation. Please continue with your contributions.
New LP12, I like some things and some I don't.
I don't know if this will solve your "problem", but I got good results from using Mapleshade's rubber/cork/rubber footers under their 2-inch maple with 3 triple-point brass cones under my Lingo 1(those triple-points are a pain to set up). I no lon...
Anti-Skate::Playing LP's vs. 12
I would go with the manufacturers specifications, while checking with maybe the record companies that produce 45 rpm. I would also not use anti-skate(or VTF, or anything else)to correct for something else(such as channel balance). Try slightly mov...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I haven't looked further into this site, but this does work. http://pwp.att.net/p/pwp-oritekaudio
