DIY HD Tracks from mint LPs?
While a good ADC setup can give you a HD digital file that mirrors your LP, keep in mind that, due to the process inherent in making vinyl records, your LP is already several mechanical generations away from the lacquer disc cut from the master ta...
Spendor and Tubes
I've got a pair of Spendor SP1/2Es that I run with an Image Audio 65i (rather rare in the US, but 50 watts per channel with 6550 or KT88 outputs). I'd agree - the classic model Spendors work great with tubes and you don't need a tremendous amount ...
What about JJ KT88 tubes?
I've got a quad of JJ KT-88 outputs in my Image 65i. They've been in service for over a year with zero problems. Bias drift has been minimal. I've been very pleased with the sound quality.
Hafler DH 500 update?
The one wild card with Elizabeth's advise is the potential for damaging your speakers. If a cap goes bad in the wrong way, its just not the amp at risk. Your call.
Hafler DH 500 update?
I'd recommend you have it checked to make sure the power supply capacitors are still good. The large electrolytic caps in power amps often go bad after 20 or 30 years. The results can be devastating to speakers. This amp is at that age.
Totem Forest, Devore super8 or Spendor A6
Haven't heard the Devores, but have listened to the other two. My reaction is the Totem is a bit more hifi-ish - brighter treble with a less tonally accurate midrange. I found the Spendor A6 more neutral in the midrange. My guess is if your main r...
From pro to hi-fi and a little confused...
I would love to audition the Dyn's and would have done it already, but there isn't a dealer anywhere near me. The reason I didn't know if they could handle rock is because of their smallish size/output. I know my VTF-2 will help, but above all, I ...
From pro to hi-fi and a little confused...
Have you auditioned them using rock music you like? That seems the best way to answer your question. Speaker opinions are all over the map. The only one that counts for you is yours.
Dumb Question about wi fi
Isn't it true that the SB Touch only does 24/96 and the SB 3 or SB Classic doesn't go over /48? OP mentioned high rez, so doesn't he need something else? You are correct about the bit rates for the Touch and SB3, but 24/96 is considered hi-rez and ...
Dumb Question about wi fi
Airport Express & Extreme use WPA/WPA2 security which is the same used by all other modern wireless devices. The original poster's question had to do with setting up a streaming network. He's already got a wi-fi network so would assume he's co...
Dumb Question about wi fi
Steve, I gather you are not familiar with the Squeezebox devices? I have a Touch and use a Linux server on my home network that has six computers (2 Windows & 4 Linux) along with a Roku for video, a Squeezebox Touch, a Squeezebox Duet controll...
Dumb Question about wi fi
Yes. If the iMac, PC and Touch are all on the same subnet provided by the router, then the Touch will be able to get music from the iMac. However, as noted before, you'll need to install the Squeezeboxserver software on the iMac. The iMac will nee...
Dumb Question about wi fi
Would you clarify something? Is the wireless router hooked directly to a cable or DSL modem and is simply sitting next to your wife's PC? That would be the more common configuration. Assuming that's the case, you can continue connecting additional...
Benchmark dac - why such diverging opinions?
Interesting thing about pro gear - it's not only used by musicians but also to record and process a very high percentage of all music released. Many audiophiles are still in search of tone controls (preconfigured to their taste) as long as they do...
Benchmark dac - why such diverging opinions?
Fact is though, on A'gon it seems that most comments about the Benchmark DAC's have been negative.Given the non-audiophile approved gear used in your typical recording studio, I'm surprised your average audiophile has more than two albums he consi...
