Break in time that extends to months or maybe even years!!
The sound early on tends to be a bit grainy and etched. This has the effect of making it seem a bit more detailed and exciting.
Where’s My Weakest Link?
I obviously have interconnects but they are generic, couldn't even give you a brand. Monster speaker wire. And lets consider the rest “generic” due to a lack of knowledge. Do you find that changing one of these items can improve a system more than...
Where’s My Weakest Link?
There is always a weakest link. The problem is the links are molecules, and run from the wire on the other side of the drop line ahead of the breaker panel to the air on the other side of the speaker cone, to the walls that contain the air and eve...

Help: ISO Beginner full setup for excellent sound on $2000 max budget
Do you have any suggestions for what you’d spend $ on, what you think might sound good if you went over to a friend’s house who had some cash to spend that wants to become a low-level audiophile?Best advice I can give, quality beats quantity. Acro...
The bass is the place...
Not that there's anything wrong with the technical discussion, Fletcher-Munson, power, any of that, but curious to know which of you guys has actual experience with a DBA? I mean actual, you know, experience?

Okay so the OP got me curious with his eclectic choice of amp and speakers, which at 93 dB actually are sensitive enough to be used with this amp. So maybe not quite as decision averse as he let on. Plus its a tube integrated which is totally the ...

What's really funny is if anyone cares to read through all my many entertaining and illuminating posts they will find buried in there somewhere the stories of the budget systems I have done for people. The most impressive of which the one that rea...

Yeah hilarious but I'm trying not to be so mean. And yet not fall into insipid like so many others. So check it with the edit.

I get the idea. You’d like a system that could be featured in both Architectural Digest and Stereophile, for $2k. No problem. Saddle up the unicorn and lets go shopping!Seriously, a great system can be done even at this price level, but not spendi...
Where’s My Weakest Link?
That’s it? That’s your "system"? What speaker cable, interconnects, power cords are you using? What fuses, outlets, power conditioner? What acoustics? Do you have any HFT? ECT? TC? Cones? Rack? Shelf???
Break in time that extends to months or maybe even years!!
Well first off if the gear cannot be enjoyed right out of the box then sorry but you bought the wrong gear. That said, everything improves with time. But its not like break-in is all that's going on. There is also warm-up. Some things warm up fast...
Equipment Rack - How important in the grand scheme of things?
skyscraper has some good questionsMillercarbon, would you know if the BDR Cones and Round Things are substantially better than the Vibrapod equivalents? They are substatially more expensive and I’m wondering if there’s enough difference to warrant...
The bass is the place...
So, we are left with, at least IMHO, most speakers that really cannot produce accurate and extended bass with any real precision. Your thoughts? Why is the bass the place?Correct. You have a good handle on the situation. For years and years all we...
What is the average dealer mark up?
Actually they pay 40 to 60%. Most of what they sell is twice or more what they paid. This by the way from a now long retired dealer friend who for years sold me whatever I wanted for 5% above his cost. Every time he would tell me what something co...
