A cable question, sort of...
This is gonna sound contradictory to those who don't think about what's going on but what is true of power cords and high voltage/high current speaker cable is quite a bit different than the comparatively low voltage low current going to a sub. In...
Listening Room Dimensions... I'm building one and need your help
What Duke said.Other than that, realize that no matter how good the room design a lot of that band rehearsal stuff you're talking about putting in there is gonna be nothing but bad for the stereo. The sound a drum makes is from the skin moving, wh...
Great country recording
Yeah does it have to be country country or can it be "country" like Mark Knopfler/Chet Akins? Allison Krauss, New Favorite? Nancy Bryan, Lay Me Down? One good thing about country music it seems for whatever reason they kept up higher recording sta...
Record mishaps
I once made the mistake of handing a fully loaded pipe to a guy who took a great big hit, staggered back, and flung his arms out for balance nailing my turntable. So no more standing bong hits around the turntable. Live and learn.
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge?
Look at it this way. The vast majority of the sound of a cartridge comes from everything other than the stylus. The vast majority of wear on a cartridge is only the stylus. Therefore the one thing most likely to be worn out is also the one thing l...
Reading Suggestions Please ? What is your Go-To Source?
The ONE most useful source is me. Although, you have to understand what I mean by "me" which is, "you". YOU are the one. No one else. Although if you are fool enough to believe there really is one out there, then in that case you are on your own, ...

VTA on the fly
Right. Only its not so much brighter as the initial attack of transients are emphasized over the body of the fundamental tone. When its low its the other way around and you get the tone but not as much attack. So if its high the cymbals are like t...
50 foot cables?
I moved my speakers next to my amp and tried 5 foot cables and trust me, there was no difference between them and the 25 foot pair of the same cable.  No difference between 5 and 25 feet. So how could there be any between 25 and 50?
When Did Your System Disappear?
^^^ Yes, it is truly amazing when the speakers not only disappear, but when your room morphs into the recording venue. FrankPut more on the internal speaker wires, and wrapped them in Mats. Have to be careful, with so much covered not to create a ...
50 foot cables?
+1 Miller. However, I would do everything possible to knock down the length of those speaker cables. Even 25 feet long is crazy and IMO probably will have some negative sonic effect. Thanks, and if it turns out he only needs 25 feet just coil the r...
When Did Your System Disappear?
There was a definite change.... with speakers, speaker cables, Cones, IC, PC, HFT, ECT, TC, O-Mats and E-cards, and especially FC. Oh and fo.Q. Got a few more to do today, thanks for reminding me. Its been years since my speakers disappeared. Its ...
Starting research for turntable
Never sell digital. As the years go by and you find yourself only appreciating your analog more and more, its very educational to have that digital whatever sitting getting more and more pathetically obsolete. A daily reminder and antidote for whe...
