Graham Phantom II + Dynavector XV1's need help
reversing the cartridge leads will either confirm or eliminate whether it's a cartridge/arm issue or not.from there you either examine the rest of the signal path or consider the various cartridge and arm issues that have been mentioned.messing ar...
Graham Phantom II + Dynavector XV1's need help
the first thing i would do is clearly identify what is out of balance. don't assume anything.play a mono Lp. you know it's got equal outputs on each side.the easiest way to do this is to start with the speakers, then the amp, then the preamp, then...

Beatles Remasters: Mono vs. Stereo Debate Thread
Abruce, i always enjoy room-filling sound. my particular room is quite lively and allows lots of bloom and detail. there is an engagement and immersive aspect to the Stereo versions which i like. OTOH from a performance standpoint the Monos are mo...
Beatles Remasters: Mono vs. Stereo Debate Thread
i purchased both the Mono and Stereo box sets on the 9th.....and have been playing around for the last week listening to many of them. the recording notes have been facinating. i've done some comparisons between the mono and stereo versions as wel...
digital front end to rival best vinyl?
Nope. a few months ago i did add a server, with 176/24 and 192/24 hirez files. they sound wonderful. much better than redbook.but i likley prefer the best SACD's to the hirez PCM i've yet heard, let alone 'the best vinyl'.....which i have in my sy...

for the guys who have mono and stereo,if you had only one choice would you go mono or stereo?i bought both but have only started listening.buy the mono box, and the individual later Stereo discs missing from the Mono box. that will get you closest...
New Beatles remasters
Some reviewers have said that the re-mastered Beatles CDs are louder than the originals by a noticeable amount. Is this something that you corrected for in your listening?again; i've only compared new to 80's CD with Abbey Road. in this example th...
New Beatles remasters
Jimjoyce, sorry to be so general.....just trying to focus on the musical enjoyment. but to list a few things specifically on the Abbey Road new stereo disc compared to the 80's CD;--much more separation of musical lines for a number of reasons. bet...
New Beatles remasters

Suggestion of single-box SACD and DAC player
there are many choices; do a search for this question.my favorite SACD player/DAC that i have heard would be the Playback Designs MPS-5. it uses an Esoteric disc drive. the MPS-5 has many different digital inputs so can be used from almost any con...
Tonearm wire burn-in question.
for peace of mind that you 'know' the breakin signal is 'getting thru'.....unplug the phono cable from the phono stage and plug it into a line level input on your preamp. verify the signal is getting thru and then you can turn down the volume if y...
BEST cartridge money can buy?
best is a bad word to use.....it belongs on magazine covers where no one will take it seriously.for years i enjoyed the vdH Colibri.....i owned 6 different Colibri's. i felt it was more detailed and energetic than any other cartridge i had heard. ...
AKUS Live, what is your opinion
as this is a digital recording (DSD) the SACD is fairly close to the vinyl in this case. i do like the recording and play it often (mostly the SACD).....but the vinyl is very, very good. i wonder how good it would be if it was recorded live to 2-t...
